Oceans Are Rapidly Losing Oxygen

The good news is that it will take a little longer to get the Bends.

The biggest concern from the reference is this snippet:

"Previous studies have found that the oceans are becoming more acidic as they absorb more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases."

As more CO2 is absorbed, the ability for calcium to remain in suspension or precipitation will be greatly hampered (the higher the pH, the more calcium will be present in those states). At low pH levels, calcium goes into solution. This will be catastrophic for all crustaceans and many key microorganisms (like plankton for instance) that depend on calcified cell structures to keep them alive.

Calcium-based organisms like plankton are at the bottom of the food chain. If they disappear, so do all remaining life forms in the ocean.

But those out there who REALLY know what the truth is certainly realize that this whole global-warming thing is just a left-wing conspiracy anyway so I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

I have lived in the ocean for years and it's becoming difficult to breathe under water. Of course you NEED to try this. ;)

Here I have been all these years breathing dry land oxygen, when I could have been breathing in all the precious ocean oxygen *shakes fist*

was at Sanibel on sunday, tried to breathe underwater, but the gills haven't fully developed yet. Soon, Dr. Moreau, soon.

At least we will win the war against the Atlanteans.

The last 8 posts in this thread are about as ignorant and pathetic as I have ever read on this forum. Most of you (hell, damn near ALL of you) are a helluva lot younger than I am so if you are representing the smart young mother-fuckers that are supposed to fix this type of shit that my generation, unfortunately, created for you, we're all doomed. Glad I'll be long dead by the time it all comes to fruition.

chill Jagger. Last I checked, I didn't exactly state my heart-felt opinion on this topic in this thread. Sometimes I choose not to go the ultra-serious route.

As someone who has spent the last 19 years living within a twenty minute drive a beach on the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico, I can assure you I am concerned about this.

Just as I am concerned about the Dead Zone growing out of the mouth of the Mississippi in the Gulf. All the fertilizer and shit dumped in that river comes out down there and has obliterated the oxygen in the water. There is no life. Maybe it is a ploy to get oil-drilling rights. Not like there would be any water-life lost in the event of a spill because there is no life.

So, before you get temporarily high-handed, remember it is FreeOnes. Serious at times, trivial at others.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
WASHINGTON — Lower levels of oxygen in the Earth's oceans, particularly off the United States' Pacific Northwest coast, could be another sign of fundamental changes linked to global climate change, scientists say.

SIGH, see? This is what I hate about everything that the media says in reference to anything scientific.

I just watched a special on the Science Channel just the other month that talked about ocean life and how it has been changing. Yes, they talked about Global Warming and how that was supposedly effecting the water, but they also talked about how there are tooooons of other factors that are killing off ocean life and changing the waters in which they live in. In fact, the scientists and experts in all fields related to oceanography, marine biology, etc., had all claimed that the main cause for all of the changes in the ocean were naturally occuring phenomenons and over fishing of certain species.

So, personally, when I hear news like this, all I can do is put my head in my hands and say, "Here we go again".

You're calling me ignorant, and yet you ignore the threat of the Atlanteans? Puhleese.

Of course I understand. You and your kind elect to treat this subject in a trivial manner. I choose to treat it as serious. Hence, the variation in discourse....and my resulting admonishment. Treat this subject however you wish. No opinions, mine or yours, will alter the facts. Whether one chooses to be concerned about those facts remains entirely subjective. They will not change as a result.

Very well, but in return I get to keep thinking the death penalty is a great idea.

Especially when it is used against those devious Atlanteans!
