Obama's New Budget Kills Constellation & Aries Programs

John F. Kennedy would not like this one bit.

Any other space enthusiasts out there like me have got to be bummed about this. We HAVE to keep exploring space. It's what mankind has always done....push the frontier. Can this be an opportunity for private enterprise to pick up the baton? I don't know. Not happy about it tonight that's for sure.

By the same token, a lot of people are not enthused about the Constellation and Aries concept and NASA has done a horrible job of promoting itself in recent years so....

Just seems a shame to me....we have no plans to go further than we have after investing so many dollars and lives over the years. Walter Cronkite would NOT be happy.

Have you seen our national deficit? I'm no fan of the Obama administration or his sense of priorities, but I have to support the president here. It's a fucking shame, but a needed one.

I just checked the HHS website, and I will be damned there is a "all black, hispanic, and redneck kids get new Nikes" provision written into the Family Assistance legislation. I am gonna quit my job and have lots of kids simply for the Nikes, because it's totally worth the money I'll get.

"If any man claims the Negro should be content... let him say he would willingly change the color of his skin and go to live in the Negro section of a large city. Then and only then has he a right to such a claim."

I think it's about hurting the space program. The current administration is just trying get this country back on it's feet.

Good thread Jag.:hatsoff:
There are TWO things that have kept us technologically slow:
1) Economics--Other things take precedent. Like giving campaign contributors what they want, and plugging the holes create by the dumbassed policies initiated by political whoremongers;
2) Bad Breeding--Women want to breed with/fuck macho steroidal aggressive cool guys. Problem is, most of those fellas couldn't finish a McDonald's kid's meal crossword. Instead of fucking intelligent men, they ruin the gene pool by choosing men with muscles, big cocks, and brains that allow them to eat oatmeal with a Nyquil cup.

So here we are...about ready to be conquered by some intelligent race of ugly, weak and awkward losers who can compute pi to 72000 digits. Thanks a lot, girls.:dunno:

I love how women are the subject in the thread. Yes, lets blame all the women because it's the only option. Lolz made me laugh though. Thanks for also sterotyping me just because I have muscles it means I'm dumb as shit.

How do I submit reply to this thread?

Actually Pete, meester is right. Why just last week I saw Shawana and her kids at Wal-Mart and they all had new Nikes on. Oh, and a few new Nintendo DS's too. Amazing how Shawana affords all of that without a job.

Oh, but meester was wrong about one thing. She has five kids not four. :D

Notice he didn't mention Bubba?

Out of line. Now THIS is borderline (or over the line) racist. JMO of course....you can believe whatever you want to believe.

OK....I agree. It's a matter of priorities. Space exploration is an extremely important priority to me. To you, it isn't.

You win. Congratulations. :glugglug:

The Wingnuts need to understand that we, as a people, need something greater than ourselves to make life worth living. Space exploration unifies us and makes us proud as a people in the achievements that "we" did. I don't know shit about math, hate math, but I always watch those space shuttle liftoffs with amazement. We all do.

To the evangelicals--why shouldn't we explore outer space? God probably thinks we're pussies if we don't bother to learn/see/experience the creations he/she made. Right?

However, we can't fund everything. We need to get people not to pucker up their bungholes at the idea of a taxing in order to get something we all want.

We have plenty of cash that can be diverted to NASA for these specific projects. We just need to divert it away from the Middle East.

Where's the outrage by the fiscal conservatives over the blank check for warmongering? We're now moving into 9 years post 9-11. When will this end?

Yes, well who cares what he thinks; he forgot to duck. Obama certainly doesn't care what he thinks.

Obama is going to go down as the President who helped Russia reemerge as a world leader. First he ditches the missile defence stuff and now NASA is going to have to depend on Roskosmos to keep the Space Station running and space out of the hands of the Chinese.

As a space enthusiast, I can totally understand why you would be bummed, but let's look at the reality of the situation...

We haven't explored our own planet enough to even come close to understanding it. There are probably millions upon millions of discoveries that we have yet to make on our own planet, so what's the rush to get out there and discover new things in space on other planets? Our planet is a mere grain of sand on the beach that is the universe. Let's understand the grain before we start combing the beach, you know?

But, like I said, I understand why you're bummed. It is kind of cool when new things in space are discovered.

We dont need to worry dudes the aliens will find us any time now, and then we'll have a star wars/star trek/battlestar galactica future

Whether people like it or not space exploration is a luxury, and this is coming from a person that's probably more interested in it than 99% of the people out there. Luxuries are for times when things are going good, all the other more pressing issues are taken care of, and you have a lot of money to utilize. We don't. I wish things where nice and rosy as much as anybody, but that’s not reality. I like space exploration and think it's cool, but I also realize it's more important to have decent education, medical care, roads, decent jobs for everybody, and an ecosystem that isn't going to collapse, among many other things. While it can also be argued that the money NASA uses is relatively little compared to a lot of other things the fact remains that there are a lot more important things that are badly needed that money could go to that it won't.

A second point is that despite what some people try to portray, space exploration hasn't yielded any significant practical real world significant advancements that are of use to the everyday person for decades. At one time decades ago it might have been true that we got a lot of useful byproducts from space exploration, but those days are long over. Now it's just a sink for money for it's own sake because it's cool or to very marginally advance some sciences that won't have any direct real world practicality anymore.

I also realize it's more important to have...an ecosystem that isn't going to collapse, among many other things.

Do you really think that things are going to get better if we divert the funds for NASA (something like less than a dollar per person per day)? Do you think that the government is ever going to address any of those issues in a more pressing manor then they have for ever before? And what do you think things will be like in 25-50 years if they don't?

That's why we need space exploration, to find a new planet because this one is FUBAR.

basically the way i see it is that we just sunk a little bit closer to being a 3rd world country.
still far away, but now just a bit closer.

We are so extremely far away from interstellar travel or even having people going to other planets in mass that all those bad things will come about long before then. That's even if it's possible within the laws the universe operates under to ever do it. That isn't a viable option, and it won't be until the far future, if it ever is. Still, if we ever reached that level of technology all the other problems would be solved long before that point. In any case there is no way we come close to making it remotely happen in 25-50 years. I would rather we spent the money making work programs where the government gave people decent jobs with that money and actually helped people out and helped out society by the work those people did for it instead of spending it on things that have little practical use.

If we ever get over our greed, the flaws in the American economic system, being controlled by the elite and rich, and have a gigantic resurgence I will be advocating as hard as anybody that we should be pushing space travel and other scientific advancements. Until that time we need to focus on things that are significantly more important.

I also understand that our leaders are a bunch of idiots or slime that don’t care about us and probably won't fix things like they should anyway. That still isn't a good excuse to do the wrong thing or to do things half-assed. Changing things has to start somewhere.

I t may be good for space travel... just think, Obama may tax Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Larry Ellis so much that they decide to make their own space program to get themselves out of U.S. jurisdiction and fund a space program to mars for far less than NASA ever could. ... Highly unlikely. This is sad for our nation.
