Obama's New Budget Kills Constellation & Aries Programs

Any other space enthusiasts out there like me have got to be bummed about this. We HAVE to keep exploring space. It's what mankind has always done....push the frontier. Can this be an opportunity for private enterprise to pick up the baton? I don't know. Not happy about it tonight that's for sure.

By the same token, a lot of people are not enthused about the Constellation and Aries concept and NASA has done a horrible job of promoting itself in recent years so....

Just seems a shame to me....we have no plans to go further than we have after investing so many dollars and lives over the years. Walter Cronkite would NOT be happy.

There are TWO things that have kept us technologically slow:
1) Economics--Other things take precedent. Like giving campaign contributors what they want, and plugging the holes create by the dumbassed policies initiated by political whoremongers;
2) Bad Breeding--Women want to breed with/fuck macho steroidal aggressive cool guys. Problem is, most of those fellas couldn't finish a McDonald's kid's meal crossword. Instead of fucking intelligent men, they ruin the gene pool by choosing men with muscles, big cocks, and brains that allow them to eat oatmeal with a Nyquil cup.

Perhaps they will be replaced with more up to date, more cost effective programs. While a good idea as a headline, the Constellation program lacked planning.

I don't disagree, Stan. I just hate to see the space program end up in a dead end. The Constellation and Aries programs are expensive and, I don't believe, thoroughly thought through. Like I said, NASA has been its own worst enemy from a public relations standpoint.

I have to ask this question, however....Did Gus Grissom, Ed White, Roger Chaffee, Dick Scobee, Mike Smith, Judy Resnick, Greg Jarvis, Ron McNair, Christa McAullife, Ellison Onizuka, David Brown, Laurel Clark, Michael Anderson, Ilan Ramon, Rick Husband, Kawpana Chawla and William McCool die for nothing?

I sure hope not.

It's almost poetic that was the whole reason we went to space in the first place: because we had to beat the Enemies Of Democracy. Didn't take very long at all to realize that rockets that can go to the moon were a great way to send bombs to kill people on Earth.

Although I disagree with continual funding for the space exploration program especially during the economic crisis our country is in, i think once the economy improves and gets back on track, then funding for space exploration should be reinstated although I'm not a space enthusiast

I think that responsible spending on space exploration is very important, and I doubt seriously that the current administration would disagree.

I think the bulk of spending for the foreseeable future will be on creating a vessel to replace the space shuttles, which (as I'm sure everyone here knows) is being retired. I think that's a vital step, not because manned space travel is the way to do things, but it is the way to garner public support.

Make a sexy new version of the space shuttle. Go to the moon, or even Mars. Public support for space exploration will soar, and then programs better than Constellation will emerge and get funding up the wazoo.

Alternatively, I could just be a dumb wanker who hasn't a clue what I'm talking about.

Actually Pete, meester is right. Why just last week I saw Shawana and her kids at Wal-Mart and they all had new Nikes on. Oh, and a few new Nintendo DS's too. Amazing how Shawana affords all of that without a job.
