OFTEN times in a very positive manner as well. Let's give credit where credit is due.

9 times out of ten your country only gives aid to other nations for cynical reasons- as a quid pro quo or an oppertunity to erect yet another military base on somebody else's soil.

Besides, I don't really understand the point of trying to create balance, where none exists, by listing the (supposed) positive things the US has done. It doesn't make the destructive things any less worse. Crimes aren't magically cancelled out by do-gooding.

Here we are with the privileges of Obama again.

Probably the majority of people on this board have had a more privileged background than Obama.

The guy is a mutt who's father left he and his mom when he was a kid, his mom left him and his sister orphaned and he was raised by his grands...

You aren't privileged to go to Columbia and Harvard Law unless you have some legacy privilege..which he didn't. You earn your way there.

So are you then admitting that Dubya earned his way into his Ivy League college too? I'm a Republican, and even I will say that's probably not the case. :1orglaugh

Ironically he is an example of the legacy privilege.:2 cents:

Not sure why I said "ironically" as it should be obvious but he is an example of the legacy privilege.

Well that can be said about any country. Let's face the facts, any country is after it's own interest (it's only rational to do so) and tries to at least maintain or strenghten their relative power position in the system. Interest, power and credibility shape international politics.
I will however agree with you that the US has lost a lot of credibility with two failed wars and human right violations in Gauntanamo bay concerning their ability as well as their morality.
That's why this creates the opportunity for the EU to identify itself with the peacemonger option and claim the moral high ground.

As an afterthought, I did address what Obama has done without going into specifics when I posted the following:

If you're talking about his politics you paint yourself into a precarious box where you are by proxy talking trash about things you might not normally just to be a dick.

What I specifically had in mind when replying to Facetious' post was the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill that President Obama signed into law in August of 2009. That's merely one example among many many others of the kind of positive things, the kind of things one could be proud and should be proud of.

If you knew anything at all about the Bush family you wouldn't have bothered posting that.

My god GWB is the epitome of being priviledged.Got into the Ivy league school only because he was a legacy as his grades were not good enough on thier own.Further was able to get into air national guard and dodge vietnam due to who his father was.
While Obama I don't think was poor as a child he had none of those kind of advantages and earned his way into the schools and positions he got on his own, with honors I might add and in the top of his classes,GWB never acheived anything close to that academically.

Here is a great vid about GWB "the fortunate son" or as I like to call such people, a member of the "lucky sperm club".

I mean, I don't think there is anything wrong with the circumstances Bush was born into...that is part of the American dream, to provide a better life for your posterity.

But it's AMAZINGLY funny to hear some of these people labeling Obama of all people with the privilege title when apparently they ignore the ULTIMATE privilege POTUS in Bush.:confused: The guy who's barely earned anything in life....you might even have to check his kids' DNA.

I was going to compliment you for saying something that was almost balanced, but who needs the argument. ;)

The Obuma report card is pretty clear two years later!

The Implosion of Obuma and the democrats has come full circle!!!

No matter how much Humpty Dumpty went on a campaign blitz for his buddies while slandering and preaching hate against the Republicans, the people now see thru all the smoke and mirrors.

It took a lot of anonymous corporate donations for the 'people' to 'see thru' the illusion, I wonder why.

I find the discussion of contributions to be interesting. :fight:
You may be mixing issues, but what the hey.

Obama spent more than any other president to be elected. I really haven't decided if I have any issue with that.

I'd love someone to do an audit of Clinton's (Both of them) campaign funding.

Good point on this though. IMO the Supreme Court should have left this one alone. Also, Obama should have left it alone as well.

(Neither call me to as my for my opinion though).

What I feel VERY STRONGLY about is that Cara Lott is freakin' hot. So, Milf Man (Milf and Cookies...you have to love that!) I love your avatar. :)

I always felt that freeones was supposed to be about porn, but I'm a slut, so...

I live in NY and when I'm in arguments I'm always the person on the left side of the argument. If you're aware of NY politics...that is pretty far to the left.

I laugh at myself when I log on here and look at political posts because I'm always thinking the posts too far to the right are just insane and I try to pull the posts too far to the left closer to the center. I guess I like to save them. As I said, I laugh at myself.

With that said. I voted for Obama. Now I know when I say this I will anger someone. I'll agree that GWB was president because Number 41 was a pretty sharp and successful guy. Obama did not have that connection, but would he be president if he was not black?

My answer is: No, he would not have had the opportunity.

I'm from NJ 50 miles from NYC and work for a progressive group ,so I think I know about NY and left wing politics.:)

But the notion that somehow being black was an advantage for Obama is ludicrous in my mind.As somebody I work with said "Bush was so bad he got the black guy elected".

Washington press asks wrong guys to compromise
by brooklynbadboy

Majority Leader GOP leader Mitch McConnell is as clear about his position on bipartisan compromise as he is about repealing healthcare reform and running President Obama out of office:

If the administration wants cooperation, it will have to begin to move in our direction.

Here is Speaker-Elect John Boehner making his position clear:

"This is not a time for compromise, and I can tell you that we will not compromise on our principles," Boehner said during an appearance on conservative Sean Hannity's radio show.

Want more? Mike Pence says he doesn't want to compromise. Jim DeMint says he doesn't want to compromise. Michael Steele says he doesn't want to compromise. Top Republicans, in leadership and out, have sent a very clear message: no compromise.

President Obama, however, is sticking to his guns on wanting to compromise on just about anything:

"I have been willing to compromise in the past and I am willing to compromise going forward." []

So why does the Washington media class keep calling on Obama to adopt a posture of compromise?

Liberal media, my ass.

From the post above this one...
Democrats and liberals are always held to a higher standard than their conservative counterparts. Conservatives and Republicans are expected to be completely ruthless in their pursuit of political advantage. Need to selectively edit a video to distort facts for political advantage? No problem--you'll get a spot on ABC news. Turn an entire cable "news" network into a 24-hour propaganda campaign? Just fine. Publicly declare "no compromise" after winning a midterm? Free pass from the DC cocktail circuit that clucks continuously about bipartisanship. But if a progressive did anything anywhere close to any of these...why, it would be an unseemly disgrace.

Winning is hard enough when the referees expect you to fight with one hand behind your back while your opponent is rewarded for low blows.

One thing I accuse Bush (43) of is not being a deep thinker. He isn't alone.
