Not Joining Facebook Makes You Suspicious

Just think about it. Say you get the job and down the road you are up for a promotion. They can go back and see if you ever posted that your boss was a dick for making you work through lunch. Then again, if you post it for the public, the public is going to see it. People are afraid of Big Brother watching them? Shit, we are providing the content for Big Brother to watch.

The ideal situation for any adult would be to be proffesionally independent...i.e working for oneself...however, if you are one of the masses of individuals who answer to superiors for your livelihood, and if your job description is such that your online image is more signifigant than the importance of your work, ...you just set up a facebook page to project your public personna image of normalcy...conncet to a few family members with a bunch of kids and/or some proffesional contacts...

Facebook doesn't have anymore signifigance than that...nobody can find out anything about you that you don't want them to knnow...if you're into FB, and you want to use FB to connect with your favorite porn star or adult model then just set up another private page....

I don't understand all the FB hatred. Sure, there are annoying people who post a picture every thing they've ever done, but you don't have to add those people. I use it with my friends to just share stuff that we find cool - hockey news, new music, stuff like that. All this "fuck facebook, it's for fags" stuff is getting almost as annoying as the people that made facebook annoying in the first place.

A few weeks ago I had to write an e-mail to the developer of an app I have on my phone because it won't let me report problems unless I'm signed in to my facey spacey "to prevent automated responses." What about those of us who couldn't give a rat's ass less about facey spaceys? Do our opinions not count? Apparently not, since we're just a bunch of psychopaths anyway. Oh, and they never replied to my e-mail.

I wanna go back to the '70s.

Me too, and I was never there. Of course, they do say that if you remember the '70s you weren't there... :joint:

depends on if I get 'poked' on FB by someone I hardly know and not on my job skills and real life behavior...

You can get poked on Freeones by someone you hardly know too! They have a section just above Members Only on the main page of the board. :) :nannerf1:

I completely agree with this; some of the people I follow in FB are due for a purge..... but overall I don't get the hatred...

Conspiracy...
I have an older one on an older site. I do not like facebook or Twitter.

This article is just fearmongering.

like i said before. when i was job hunting, those fuckers asked me for my myspace and fagbook links. they didnt ask if i had one, they asked me for them both. which i dont have.

long story short: i was pissed.

They do not have a right to ask. (4th amendment)

They shouldn't have to create new laws for this.

What a complete and utter load of shit in a thousand different ways, everyone in the article is wrong it's that bad of an article.

And this is what the argument boils down to: It's the suspicion that not being on Facebook, which has become so normal among young adults, is a sign that you're abnormal and dysfunctional, or even dangerous, ways.

May as well just highlight anything out of that. Huh?! Good work there peppy.

Maybe I shouldn't be commenting on this since I am old enough to get the pass. But I still think that social networking needs to be thought over before jumping in. The shit you wrote at 16 is still there at 26 and 36 and 46. God bless those that use it and enjoy it. Just be careful and realize that there are a zillion fine tooth combs scanning all of that stuff. Potential mates, employers, your family, mortgage companies, landlords. Even the people that you don't know that you accept as friends just to get your numbers up. They could be phishing just to get informatin.

I get what you're saying, but if my potential mate is sifting through 5 year old facebook posts I made, then it's clearly not going to work out.

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
I have one. Do I hop on there and drool around everyday, no. Hell I don't go on there weekly. Maybe... and I mean maybe once a month. And that's usually to "Like" something so I get a stupid discount. I honestly don't care what other people ate for lunch.
