WHen the Republicans can tell the Nation what the price of gas at the pump will be if we open up every inch of American coasts and every inch of American farmland for drilling...than I'll consider the risk/benefit ratio seriously.
When the Republicans can tell me why it's a good idea to drill, drill, drill now even though new oil won't be coming out of the ground for ATLEAST 10 YEARS--how is that going to affect gas prices tomorrow at the pump? Isn't it more reasonable to have an alternative fuel solution in place by the time that new oil comes up? Isn't that a better use of American resources?
Finally, WHen the Republicans will GUARANTEE IN WRITING that EVERY BARREL OF OIL WILL GO TO THE AMERICAN CONSUMER and not India, China and "the world market" than, again, maybe I'll listen. I want a Gov't Audit team stationed at Chevron, Exxon to make sure they adhere to that condition and not send the oil "to the market." If they break this condition...I want fines of $500 Million a year for 5 years.
Lastly, it's hard to justify tax breaks for Oil Companies in today's market when they make $10-$15Billion per quarter and when they don't bother investing their own profits in alternative fuel options. Let's take back the tax breaks NOW...no matter what happens and if Oil retreats to $20/barrel, we'll give them their tax breaks again.

Then when Bush said he would NOT stand in the way of any exploration/drilling/refining in OUR country, it started to drop that DAY. THAT is truth. The fact is that all the oil companies agree that we have at least as much and probably MORE oil in our territories than the whole middle east, had it not been for idiot liberals and the dirt people, we could ALREADY have this taken care of.
A WHOLE lot of the capped places where oil was harvested years ago and considered done, have pressure and oil in them again. They have gauges and it will register the steady pressure.
The oil field in the gulf of Mexico was estimated to be a 30 year field by where it was measured in 1977, today the measurement is the same, 30 year supply.
Scientists are saying that the oil in the planet is very possibly a self renewing resource, quite possibly a cooling mechanism due to all the heat and pressure inside the planet.
In the mean time, there is SYNTHETIC oil, which is what I use in my vehicles, that cuts down on the need for crude from that, several companies are developing different things like Electric cars; gotta do a LOT before that is a reliable alternative, not to mention those pesky unstable, volatile batteries and the energy it takes to produce them, thanks again to the dirt people and the environazis, who make it impossible to build the batteries HERE.

Companies have to GROW to HIRE EMPLOYEES. That is fact. He wants to implement more taxes on PROFIT,(this is what a capitol gains tax IS) this WILL raise prices on the END USER, the CONSUMER, THIS MEANS YOU, Higher prices and HIGHER TAXES! 86150- Your trying to have a world that don't exist anymore and will not be back barring something monumental.That world of cheap oil and being able to use and consume it with little regard as to what it will cost and what its effects are is gone.When Obama said what he said about oil prices and he had wished the price hike had been more gradual is the only reasonable sane response there is.The price was and is going to go up.Population of the world has double since the 60s and the US grew from 200 million to 300.And we have raised the amount of oil we import from under 50% to over 70%.We use over 25% of all the oil consumed worldwide,you ain't fixing that and becoming independant with what we got.In fact if we don't curb consumption rates even more drilling here will not prevent use from importing higher % anyway,we use that much.Here is a nice link for you to look at on oil,you can get some facts.

As I said earlier everybody is to blame for this not just the politicians I am in favor on Nuclear power as we really do need something clean (non co2 emitting to replace the oil and coal) not to mention the redced need for oil which is getting is getting pricier all the time.So people who just say we can conserve our way out or wind and solar will be enough are unrealistic IMO as much as the people who think we can ever maintain the current consumption of all this very damaging more ever increasing in expense oil are like you advocate.
