NME 50 Top Albums Of The Decade....

It's actually a Top 100: http://www.nme.com/list/albums-of-the-decade/158049

2nd half is actually worse. It's basically just a bunch of filler, I guess they ran out of ideas and just shoved a bunch of crap they liked in to flesh it out.

Saw that but had the same thought as you. Probably a good thing i didnt put that half on, its about 10 times more obscure than the albums i thought were well known that seem to be new to most people. Oh well, still good to see what people think about it

I'll get this started with my top ten:

1. Radiohead- Kid A
2. Arctic Monkeys- Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What I'm Not
3.Bob Dylan- Love And Theft
4. Bright Eyes- I'm Wide Awake, Its Morning
5. Ryan Adams- Gold
6. TV On The Radio- Return To Cookie Mountain
7. Radiohead- Hail To The Thief
8. The Libertines- Up The Bracket
9. Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavillion
10 Radiohead- In Rainbows

Feel free to tear that list apart!

that's more like it. but as to NME, are these people smokin' cracK?

to your list I'd add Prince - One Nite Alone and Prince - the Rainbow Children (both classics). I'd also consider adding David Gilmour's last solo album. Plus put Amnesiac on that list.

I was going to put Amnesiac together with Kid A, sort of Kid B(sides) but thought that might be cheating, still a great album though.

Expect Nothing and Appreciate Everything
Something is wrong in the land of the NME me thinks.

It also goes to show you just how narrow a field of music the NME actually listens to. There's also a lot of favouritism being shown here. I'm surprised Pete Docherty isn't number one (he's #2 but still). I would have put money on him being their number one choice for anything of everything ever - he's the NME's golden boy after all.

But no one is going to agree with this list completely because music is subjective. No list is going to meet everyone's standards.

I agree...that list covers such a narrow spectrum of music...theres so much more good music out there that they should include

To be fair to them even though there is a lot in this list to criticise them for, they are an indie/alternative music magazine, they've got to cater to the demographic that pays £2.30 each week. The spectrum is narrow but thats what they cover; eg. it would be suprising if kerrang had franz ferdinand or the libertines at the top of their version of the list

I got the last Libertines album and i just wasn't impressed with it.

Not as stunning as their first but it does have more good songs than bad, plus it shows a band disintegrating can bring good results even if the singer has to be on heroin and burgling his bandmates to do it!

Good point but DBTT and DOYS, although not their best work, are light years better than 90% of that shithead list....im sorry! :2 cents:
Blur??!?

Nothing Oasis has ever done is better than anything on this list. Probably the most overrated band of all time.

The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
Well...

I like how it isn't all rap.

I'm surprised the Yeah Yeah Yeah's It's Blitz! isn't on there, though.

WTF, i have not heard of 3/4 of the bands on that list.

Interesting the slapped a Jay-Z album in there. It is one of his best too!

The more I look at that list the more it doesn't make any sense to me. the Strokes album was alright, but the best so far in this century? what about Wu Tang? Ghostface? Raekwon? it's just a really bad list. oh well it's their list I guess but their credibilty is weak to me.

what a pile of shite

My thoughts exactly. I hate lists like that. Look at the two White Stripes albums together. It's like the editors of that magazine got together one night and got smashed on cider and compiled the list. I could put together a list of my top ten albums this week and I guarantee it would be different next week.

So the Strokes and the Artic Monkeys made better records than Eminem, Nas or Linkin Park?

I guess its just a matter of taste! I still don't get these lists tho (best this and number one that), except Playmate of the Year. I like that one! :1orglaugh

By the looks of it NME are very narrowminded, and i'll never ever buy the magazine. How many of those artists are british and how many are accessible commercial albums...probably all of them?
