Yes, we all knew this day was coming, and here it is.
Let's tip our hats to "Nikki" for all the years of hard work. Think about how disciplined a person this is, to stay in tip-top shape all these years and stick to the weekly release schedule of videos, photos, cam shows + all the other things she does in her real job as well other things for fans- autographs, her auction site, the "chat" site (I forget what that one's called now), twitter, replying to e-mails, etc. etc. It's a herculean task she undertook and accomplished.
To put yourself out there means to take criticism and there's no way around that, especially in this business. We the customers, have that right. That sends the message whether the product is reaching the fans or not. It's easy for her and hubby to divide the "she's just not my type" criticism from the creative criticism "if she just was nude a bit longer in the vids" or "this video would have been better if ....." Sometimes it looked like they were reacting, other times, not so much.
So on the flipside, yes, she could have been more accommodating to what the fans/subscribers wanted (more nudity) without totally bending her principles. Despite being filmed and photographed week in-week out, content could have been more "fun" and entertaining at times, and yes, it did seem like her heart hasn't been in it for a while now.
So where does this leave the fans? Well, we've got years of material to continue to peruse through and discuss, who knows what Mr. Flash still has in his vaults, and my curiosity lies in a rumour I read years and years ago- that once the nikki's playmates site started, two sets of photos and two sets of vids were filmed. One set, we saw posted on the website, and the second set, with much more nudity, was stored away for future use when she retired, thereby making "Nikki" the first timeless internet model with continued new content (and for them, continued income) years after she hung up the high heels.
