Sorry, but it is not going to happen. The Lightning only have one more GF than they do GA this season. Lightning would win the first round, but put them up against Boston or Pittsburgh and their ticket to the golf course is punched.

the bad goal differential can still be blamed on Ellis and Smith's play this season. if we'd had Roloson as our starter since the beginning, we'd be at least +20

but that's fine. i'm sure they don't mind being underdogs

the Flyers need someone good in net then they could win the cup

The Oilers were an 8th seed in 2006 and finished the season +7 on goal differential. I don't doubt that the Lightning will finish better than that and be a much higher seed, probably 2nd or 3rd as a division winner. Boston and Philadelphia are better teams, I agree, but if Roloson plays like he did in '06 (I'd like to point out here that he's already done this in the playoffs) then even Philadelphia and Boston will be in for a world of hurt. Bobrovsky's never played a game in the playoffs and neither Rask nor Thomas have gone as deep as Roloson has before.

P.S. Goal differential for the season is an irrelevant statistic in the playoffs. So are most other season statistics, but certainly goal differential is.

Question for you, Rod. Who was the Oiler's starting goaltender between '97-'00 (if it was one person)? I remember going to a playoff game when the Oilers were playing the Stars and the guy's name is right at the edge of my mind.

Remember, though, that Boucher has gone as far as Roloson (well, technically one game less than) before and has shown that he can play extremely well in the playoffs too.

In the end, I reckon there are just too many possibilities to predict the playoffs yet. A lot of people have been picking the Bruins now that they added Kaberle, though. Defintely won't be squandering a 3-0 series lead again, I think...

You're probably thinking of Tommy Salo, although Bob Essensa and Mikhail Shtalenkov were starters (as was Curtis Joseph) during that time period as well.

YES. Salo. That's the one. Thank you very much, if I could rep you I would.

Yeah I guess you are right , he never took the edmonton oilers to a stanley cup final , my bad.

It's alright. At least we're not comparing Mike Smith to Roberto Luongo again.

You really don't like the Tampa Bay Lightning huh ? You seem to almost hate them as much as I hate the montreal canadians.

I don't have a problem with the Lightning, actually. It's just that there are no Flames fans on FreeOnes and making fun of the Leafs is just too damn easy.

Toronto above .500 after tonight's win (first time this year??).

And pretty ruthless crosscheck to the face from Gillies against Clutterbuck. :surprise:

"Old time hockey"...or not. I can tell you one thing, Clutterbuck is going to feel that one in the morning. :surprise:

Philadelphia is the team to beat in the East. Everyone else is just an afterthought. :2 cents:

Wasn't Pittsburgh tied with or above Philly before Crosby went down? I wouldn't count Pittsburgh out yet. Especially considering they'll prob drop to about 6th and be a matchup nightmare for the top seeds.

Gillies is like Matt Cooke. they both need to be removed from the NHL

now we have injuries piling up, Stamkos won't score, the power play is useless and the Capitals are getting better. we will not win the South East. i've been saying it for months

wonderful time for Tampa to go soft. we will not do anything in the playoffs playing like this

Leafs beat Philly 3-2 wow didn't see that coming

getting closer that last play off spot

The Leafs are good, man. I watched them against Pittsburgh and they played really well. I've been saying that Mikhail Grabovski is a true NHL star for a while and he sure is playing like one (which seems to have gone mostly unnoticed). I actually think they will make playoffs. Even if they don't, they probably will next year because their future actually looks really bright.

I agree with you

who thinks the rangers have a shot at making the playoffs this year? With the loss to the wilds last night, i am starting to feel they might fall out of it in the next few games.

Sorry man, it is just the Wild.

The Crosby injury is a serious one. Many Hockey players, Eric Lindros being one of them, have had to retire from not being able to recover from a concussion. I am not going say whether or not I think he will return this season, but his injury is serious.

I am a huge Red Wings fan, and I know they will make the playoffs. It is too early to tell contenders for the Stanley Cup, but once the eight teams from each division are finalized, I will make two choices, one from the west and one from the east on who I think will make it to the Stanley Cup finals.

I don't know. Brian Leetch being one of my favorite players of all time I am a bit of a closet Rangers fan, I must admit (I'm still amazed at some of the numbers he amassed over the years). They are inconsistent, but the Wild are one of the hottest teams in the league since the break (but they are streaky). No doubt their loss to the Wild last night was poor, but I hope they get in nonetheless. Opening series games at MSG and Spectrum would be awesome via NY v. Philly. I would look forward to that series, even if NY was playing like shit.
