More than Washington?

I don't see the Islanders wanting to give up Roloson, but Nabakov might be a good fit for the Lightning if he is willing to take a pay cut. He was one of the best goalies in the league, and being on a team that can't/can barely make the playoffs without him should hopefully keep the Lightning fans from bitching about his playoff record.

Sorry PlasmaTwa, but why the hell wouldn't the Islanders want to trade Roloson? He's 41 years old, he's their fifth-highest paid player ($3 million) and fifth-highest cap hit ($2.5 million), which is including Alexei Yashin's team-high salary and cap hit from when he was bought out. The team is dead last in the NHL by a very large margin and don't have any reason to keep an ancient, slightly above average goaltender who is being paid that much. And he's in the last year of his contract (and most likely his career). I guarantee they are looking to trade Roloson to a good team with goaltending issues who want a decent goaltender for the rest of the season and playoffs, such as the Tampa Bay Lightning. This team is in a rebuilding phase, and a guy like Dwayne Roloson is pretty much the epitome of what a team in a rebuilding phase doesn't want.

How much cap space is Tampa going to have after resigning Stamkos?

Nabokov apparently left the KHL due to family matters. That probably means he just didn't get paid, but you never know. He might not want to come back to the NHL.

Good point on this one, PlasmaTwa. After signing Stamkos, the Lightning can pretty much kiss their cap space goodbye. At least the kind of cap space that they can use to sign a guy like Nabokov or Vokoun. They won't be able to afford those guys after signing Stamkos.

never say never with Yzerman at the helm of this ship.

especially since, if Gagne is coming back next year, he's probably going to have to take a pay cut. this season he's getting 5.25 million and is not playing like a 5.25 million dollar player...yet

I wonder if Tampa should try to get a trade with Calgary for Kipprusoff. He'd solve the goalie problems, and let's face it, both him and Iginla must be wanting out of that sinking ship ASAP.

I think the only untouchable player in Calgary is Kipprusoff , I would love having him in tampa but I highly doubt calgary would trade him. And if they decided to trade him what would tampa give up in exchange ? What tampa really needs is a good goalie that can be their #1 for 3-4 years max untill Dustin Tokarski is ready to step in.

Unless Gagné agrees to play for less than 2 million a season , I don't think he is coming back next season. Stamkos is going to cost 6 million/season minimum and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes up to 7-8 million/season. After all he is in the top 3 best players in the league.

Calgary is going to be rebuilding after this year, and when they realize they don't have any prospects or bright future like Edmonton, they'll be forced to try and get something. Kipp isn't going to want to be in Calgary if they are rebuilding - remember, this is the guy who was so stuck up he said he wouldn't play in the Olympics if he wasn't going to be Finland's starter. I think if they are willing to get rid of Iginla, they will be willing to get rid of Kipp. Better to trade him and get some prospects instead of keeping him and letting him retire during a rebuilding stage without getting another chance at the Cup.

Both the Bolts and the Thrashers are now only two points behind the capitals ! I think Ovie and his gang finally have some competition in the south-east division.

God, what happened to my Pens tonight??? We have a 1-0 lead with about 9 minutes left, and at home no less, and then a total collapse! Johnson gives up 2 goals in 15 seconds, and the Rangers never look back! The next 5 minutes were a nightmare.......ended up losing 4-1! Well at least we have off until the 20th to regroup when we play the 'Yotes! Only bright spots are that Malkin (scored all our goals the last 2 games actually) has looked sharp since his return (though he did take a stupid penalty late in the game yesterday that helped the Flyers score the game winner) yesterday, and Sid was able to extend his scoring streak to 20 games. Other than that......blah! Of course to make it worse, the Flyers beat the Habs to drop us 3 points back! Hopefully Fleury can remain solid in net.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a "Turnpike Series" for the Eastern Conference Championship this year.....Pens-Flyers!

TBD. Stamkos has not been resigned yet

Yeah Stamkos and Doughty<Kings> are both going to require thier teams to backup armored cars of cash. I like Vinny but unless he returns to his old self this season his contract is going to bite the Lightning in the ass for years to come. Those 8-10 million dollar player cap hits are brutal.

My cousin was a the Lightning game last night and said Smith really played well. Nice goal by Hedman in the SO!!! Is Victor making good progress this season?

yeah, you can thank the old Oren Koules Hockey Group for the shitty contracts. they gave everybody they could the longest, most expensive contracts. Matt Walker and Andrej Meszaros both had 4 year deals, Mattias Ohlund has a 7 year deal (not complaining about that one), Malone has a 7 year deal (also not complaining), and Lecavalier has that 11 year monster )won't complain if he picks it up).

Hedman is getting to be an outstanding defenseman. right now he's a +1 (which is good for the Lightning who are always a terrible plus/minus team) with 2 goals and 10 assists.

he's also making strong defensive plays and does now use his size the way Pronger (who he was compared to in the draft) does.

It really is a shame the Islanders can't go back to the glory days of Mike Bossy. One of the great dynasties in the league's history.

Beat Pittsburgh 4-1 (see above) but Callahan broke his left hand blocking a shot. Fuck, fuck, fuck!

I saw it. Good game. Shame about Callahan. Shame about Kane recently too. Although Kane is supposed to be ready within a week or two.

Anyone know WTF it is with the Caps? They are not the same team of a year ago.

Hey, I'm not sure about an eleven year contract, but considering Lecavalier was supposed to be the Michael Jordan of hockey, it makes sense to give him a big contract.

If only things worked like they did in the movies, though.

The Mike Jordan of hockey? I know he was touted as someone who was going to do big things, but the history is lined with these types of guys. I remember his rookie card though, and it was selling for big bucks for sure. I don't think there will ever be another Gretzky or Howe. Never.

Went to the Oilers-Blue Jackets game last night and had a blast. Our rookies combined for 11 points! Hall had three assists, Eberle had two goals, Pääjärvi had a goal and an assist, and Linus Omark scored his first career NHL goal and added two assists. And Khabibulin looked great. What a game! I hadn't been to Rexall Place in a long time and that game made me want to go back ASAP.

The last player that could hold a candle to Gretzky was Lemieux. Lindros could have been one of the greats as well, if it wasn't for his injuries. The way the game is changing, there will never be another player to earn the amount of points they did. Hell, it was a miracle a few seasons ago when Ovechkin hit sixty.

I don't know how I could forget Lemieux. He actually has the greatest statistic (IMO) in the league's history: averaged over 2 points a game over the course of his career. Truly he might have been better than anyone to play the game. I did like the early 90s years with Federov, Bure , Jagr and Selanne and the numbers they were puting up. And I agree, Lindros could've been one of the greats, but his size might have worked against him. I know I would've went out and tried to kill him just because of his size. I always hated big players, and I know a lot of other guys that head hunted big goons.
