Need Help with File Management in Windows XP

I need a way to select all the folders that do not contain a certain file format.

**** downloads to many diffirent folders on many diffirent drives, I don't want the finished downloads to be moved to a single default folder on one drive. As such, there are many folders that are finished mixed in with folders that still have incomplete data in them. I figure if I can select all the folders that don't contain the uTorrent specific incomplete file format "!ut" and move them to where I want them my problem would be solved. The only thing I can't figure out is how to select all the folders that don't contain a certain file type. Does anyone have any knowledge that would assist me in dealing with this?

First, you just screwed yourself by mentioning torrents. The topic will get nixed shortly by a mod and the reason: Filesharing.

Secondly..

Premium Link Upgrade

That's all I'm gonna advise. There are easier methods. There's the manual method.(click click click click drag click click) DOS still serves a purpose these days. If you're asking on a porn board, chances are ya dont know what I'm talking about anyway.

I would assume that the easiest thing to do would be to create a new folder for all the files of a certain type and just moving those, rather than trying to move all of the other files that aren't of that type, which I assume is going to be most of them.

er. who cares? is there a reason for this, or do you just want your folders to look neat and pretty? you should probably sort out what files are going to go into which folders before you start getting programs to send them out willy nilly. that would be the best thing to do from now on.

PS. what the hell is dos? is that that old thing where you had to type out all the **** that you wanted to do, back in the stone age before they invented computers that had actual graphics instead of just text?

I'm only half kidding. but seriously, I don't remember how to do anything in dos anymore. people don't want to type code, they want to see a big bright flashy smiling face that says "click here and this file will do everything that you want and you don't have to do anything else."

There are two things I still use dos for. To run old dos-based games (obviously) and sometimes dos comes in handy for deleting files that cannot be deleted in windows. Like crap that I download and it turns out to be a trick, and it's something totally different then you can't delete it, almost like it's some type of virus. I don't know the name for that type of ****.

Well depending on the OS.. one could type something like 'move *.gif c:\TEMP'

and it would only move all the .GIF files to a temp directory on C.

Windows by default wont let you use such a far-reaching move command simply by clicking and/or typing much. Unless you consider a DOSbox part of windows.. which to date, is not part of windows anymore. 95 and win 3.1 are basically GUIs for DOS while.. ::fast forward:: XP or Vista dont really support a full DOS environment.

Not that you asked for an explanation, but.. ::shrug::

As Torre said, there are a number of ways to do this, but I agree with him on this one, DOS is what I would use. Then again, I've worked with DOS professionally, so I'm pretty familiar with it, and I'm not sure what your level of comfort with it is as say opposed to the Windows GUI or the dreaded Clippy (there's a flashback for you )
