Most Overused Expressions Of 2020

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
All of them, but especially , the new normal, and social distancing.

GOAT for Greatest Of All Time. There was a time when ESPN used to report the sports instead of trying to establish fucking trends. You know who the real GOAT is? Those fucking guys. And gals.

I'd like to add the terms salty and triggered. Remember when people just used to use the words angry, mad, or upset? Those were good times.

The words "fraud" and "stolen" were very much used in 2020, almost always as part of misinformation campaigns

The way the word joke doesn't exist anymore. Any sort of anecdote, joke, or funny statement, let a long any sort of image, among virtually anything, is now a "meme." Dumb.

'Limited series'. I blame Americans for this one.
This is even worse than the rest because it usually becomes a scam for people to stupidly pay more for an item they just put an number on. Or even worse than that yet it means they artificially limited production so people have to pay more when scalpers get a hold of something others want. At least the other things are irritating and don't cost money.

I'd like to add "cancel culture" to the list. Remember when boycotts were a thing, and something that has been around for hundreds of years since corporations or people pissed others off to the point of them not want to buy their products or be associated with them?

They invented a new scary term for a concept that was been around and used for a long time.

In 2020, your choice ...

1. PPP - Paycheck Protection Program (loans to keep workers employed during the Pandemic)

2. PPE - Personal Protective Equipment (masks, face shields, gloves, gowns, etc.)

That's a cop out. You can blame us Americans for almost any and everything annoying.

Plus, jokes have to be politically correct now. The difficult part is figuring out which ones are going to get you in trouble in 10 years. Who knows what the 'cancel culture' will be up to in 2030.

I get annoyed at all the buzzwords flung at me. Two of the worst have been mentioned: "New Normal" and "Stay Safe". Three more which
Onboarding: Why not just say training or orientation?
Human Capital: Why not just say personnel or Human Resources?
Thinking Outside the Box: What happens if the box is working?

I'm conflicted about this. On one hand I can see some people potentially reading too much into some innocent offhand comment of the past. On the other hand I long ago got tired of "It was just a joke", "I was just joking", or "Can't you take a joke" being used as an catch-all get out of jail free excuse for any reprehensible or stupid thoughts and actions somebody did that they now want to worm their way out of.

I get myself in tons of trouble with my unfiltered mouth trying to weasel out of predicaments by saying “Just kidding”.

Based on what I'm seeing, I think we can all agree, we're all over the covid terminology.

Stay safe, ya'll. I'd be meming with ya, but this is the new normal. At the end of the day, it was all just a joke. You can take a joke, can't ya?
