Most Americans just don't want small cars

small cars are not really my cup of tea

It's simple. When fuel is cheap it's no longer a limiting factor for people's fantasies on the car they go out and buy. Big typically translates to options; meaning you get more horsepower, more room, more gadgets, more doors, more utility, more legroom and so on and so on.

When fuel becomes pricey the importance of just affording a trip around town becomes more paramount. If you earn say 500 bucks a week and 100 of that goes straight to your gas tank that might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. When you could be filling up a smaller car for half that or less.

The American public can tend to be impulsive and shortsighted. Immediate gratification often trumps what may be best for the future for a lot of people in this country.

Americans are welcome to their SUVs, pickup trucks and gas guzzlers. Just don't expect the rest of the world to be overly sympathetic when you're bitching about the price it costs to fill your tank. :2 cents:

Personally, I'd like to see rail start becoming a good alternative to driving or air travel within the states. It's insane that Amtrak costs as much as an airline ticket.

There is nothing more tedious to me than people who drone on about their cars. I've never understood the fascination.

That is all.

Same here.

Good for you, you wasted thousands of dollars on useless shit for an impractical car. I'm sure your family appreciates it.

thats because most have gotten so fat they cant fit into a regular size car.
Lol

That's because they can't properly use a goddamn apostrophe.

There should be a correct grammar thread.....where we get to rip people who don't put two spaces after sentences, don't recognize the existence of commas, and either right in all caps or use no caps at all. And I think you should be in charge of it.

The bed of my Duramax is trashed :)

Cum stains don't count. :D

I agree with you so much - the train on this continent is not an option presently, but if ever there was a country suited to high-speed rail, this is it. It would be so nice to be able to go overnight from New York to Chicago for a reasonable fee.

I think this is going to have to happen at some point. The question is, how to power the trains? Diesel? Electric?

For the EMPEROR!!
I'd love to have my V8 back, or buy a new one. But with fuel prices the way they are a small car is more economical.

Besides, driving a big car in the city is a nightmare and parking spaces seem to be shrinking.

@ Yumi-Yumi - you spelled write wrong. :elaugh: :D

A lot of Americans NEED those SUVs and trucks because of where they live.

right .... correct grammar

Truth... trucks are extremely useful around where I live, off road ground clearance and bed space is a must. The only cars I would buy would be either extreme luxury or stupid horsepower machines that cost more that the house they'll be living in.

I want a pickup truck! Must be a guy thing I dunno, just know I want one. Small cars look so damn girly. Sadly though, I'm sure the day will come when the only options are small cars or walk.

Yes ;)

What! And sit with the great unwashed? I think not .....

Not me either.

and something about ''Revoking a man card''...

Watching reruns again?

:yesyes:

No. GRUNT!

It doesn't work in America because our cities aren't as interconnected as the rest of the world.
Take a hike in one of the many available regional parks or preserves sometime, get away from all of the people for a change, you might like it.

We don't need it to work here. We need to just: drill, drill, drill! :D

They'll be sorry when the zombie apocalypse comes to pass.

They will want a big car or truck then. :flame: Or, if the economy collapses and we it turns into Mad Max.

small cars are not really my cup of tea

;)

:surprise: But now I've got $60 more a week to spend on my woman.... man card reinstated. :nanner:

Besides, the downsize is kinda manly....kinda.

No. It is not reinstated. :nono: She needs to learn not to ask for so much. :D
Make her start a home business.

I always like the idiots who drive a big truck (with a clean, untouched bed) who bitch about gas prices.

Gas is too much even with a small vehicle. $3 and $4 a gallon gas is far too much.

Put the fuel prices in America to what they are here in the UK and we'll soon see the masses jump onto the small car bandwagon. It's about £6 per gallon here in Scotland (give or take a penny or two) and that makes it about what? ten dollars per gallon in the US?.
