I have no clue what means to be a model, beside maybe sucking the right cocks seems to be the most accurate answer. I've seen couple episodes of some reality show with girls competing to be a models, but their qualities had barely anything to do with being appealing by looks to the masses of men, but more of having random feministic qualities, separate from mainstream looks with below average looking skinny girls having some makeups and wearing weird clothes. I understand your reaction. When I was younger I used to think pretty much the same. But it's not as if those dresses are being designed for the general public. They're more of an exhibition of the designer's overall skill, imagination and creativity. The labor involved in making haute couture dresses is immense and intense.

High fashion models are tall and slender/skinny for a couple of reasons 1) because generally clothing displays/hangs better off of that kind of build than any other, 2) because that relative uniformity means any number of models at a show would fit into the same dress, which means the designer doesn't have to create several copies of the same dress in various sizes.
