Mitch Hedberg: Funny Or No?

He seemed like a nice cool cat who loved doing ***** like they were going outta style. I just never understood his jokes whether I was on ***** or not. Why is he funny? I conducted a similar thread about Lenny Bruce and I'm still scratching my head.

Comedy is extremely subjective and everyone is entitled to their own individual tastes. Just please allow the comics some room to work.

You're absolutely correct, it is VERY subjective. which is why it is NEVER, and ALWAYS offensive. When you can get over those silly little mental blocks, that lead you down the sheeple path. you can appreciate ANY art much better.

Absolutely an amazing talent, that left us to soon. I toughly enjoyed everything I've ever seen the man perform.

Any good clips you might suggest I watch? I'm sure he's a good enough comic. I just haven't seen what I like yet.

I like weird comics like Norm MacDonald who make their mortgage payments with passive aggression. Canadian Man Of Mischief who has the most torturesome and funny 3 1/2 minute joke about a moth. The pacing here is key...

He had a couple of funny cameo's on "That 70's show, that I liked.

But what I always liked, was his punch line delivery, and that combined with his voice was to me, very funny. He's an acquired taste, and someone you could find funny, for reasons you couldn't find another comic funny.

I was telling my wife about jokes that have a delay switch. I mentioned some people didn't find out Andy Kaufman was funny until 30 years after he died. I showed her the pictures of him busing tables at Jerry's Deli in Encino during the height of his fame in Taxi. People would think they saw Andy Kaufman and then go, "Noooooooooo... it couldn't be him. That guy is a star." His boss at Jerry's said he was a good busboy too. Playing a gag on society like that is funny to me too.

Mitch was fantastic but I also think he had a style and delivery that could make him difficult to 'get' for some people, so I'd venture to suggest you're not alone, Dino. He reminds me of a slightly more manic and weird Steven Wright.

For me though, he's as much a lost talent to stand-up as Bill Hicks was.
