Minneapolis bridge collapse

Re: Yet another thread ***** by anti-US capitalist agendas ...

Obviously you don't understand the first thing about a "progressive tax system."
There is no such thing as a "greater tax cut for low income" in a "progressive tax system."
You can only have "tax credits" -- which means the government subsidizes people.

Obviously you don't know where most discretionary income is spent.
A majority is not spent on luxuries, but on investments, which create private sector jobs.

Nonsense and please don't even start determining what I know or don't know.I knew what a progressive tax system was before you were alive.Of course you can have lower rates on mid to lower income wage earners. That is what progressive is.And our tax structure used to be much more progressive with top rates over 90% on top earners from the end of WW2 till 1964.And most beleive that was our golden age of growth. And also you have not even bothered to respond to my post in this thread debunking your claim that the defense budget or some portion of it did not contain an amount enough to be significant to repair our infrastructure.

At least tie your points directly to bridges somehow.

(I'd even accept Elisha, Lloyd or Jeff, Nash or the 60's card game.)

Get back to the topic, please.

I didn't start talking about taxes and what was wrong with them!

Why did you single out my post?!
This is utter bullshit!

Yes, it was off-topic, but so are many others!
Geez, I basically corrected something!

Sorry, but this was the most unobjective post deletion I have ever seen on this board!
If you delete all of the other posts on taxes -- of which I did NOT start!, then I'll agree.

But until then, I call B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T!
People shouldn't start bitching about taxes and talking about what's wrong with them in the first place, if I can't respond.

Here's the latest I've read on it. Weekend news on TV in my area is very limited so I just read news. Seems weather has hindered the recovery efforts.

They also are shocked that the death toll so far is so small, its nothing but a miracle. I'm sure there will more, but so far, so miraculous.

Note: I was gathering my links and didn't mean to interupt, sorry.

Even road resurfacing places a strain ...

They kept talking about how the repairs were simple road resurfacing. Sorry, that does place an undue strain on structure.

1. The vibrations from the resurfacing are definitely a load, and not straight up-down against gravity either.

2. The equipment involved in resurfacing is very, very heavy -- especially when loaded with asphalt as well as the rollers.

3. The shifted traffic to two (2) lanes, which put a serious torque on the structure, instead of "balance" across lanes.

Someone screwed-the-pooch on this. But that happens when you have "oh, we've gotta get this done" at times. I don't know how many times I'd go out to various projects with my ****** when I was a *** and they were royally fouling it up.

I have been amazed by the low death toll in a number of catastrophic events. In the crash of the German zeppelin Hindenburg two-thirds of those on board survived. The 9/11 ****** ****** 3 thousand but I thought it would be in the tens of thousand when it happened. I guess people are harder to **** than we think.

The bullshit continues ..

And this is "on-topic" and allowed because someone prefixes it?
I counted a half-dozen off-topic posts, and countless other "taxes" and other non-sense before I even posted ...

Yet because I'm in the "minority viewpoint" my post gets deleted, while this bullshit goes on?!?!? This is the foundation of censorship!

Forget it, I'm outta here.

If it makes you feel any better, I got a post deleted earlier today myself. I did not like it either.

Oh, yeah. Tie it into the bridge...um....I am really sorry that this bridge collapsed. I sincerely hope that the death toll does not go up as the authorities have said it would when all the car wreckages are checked.

But seriously. Did I not see a bridge running parallel to the collapsed one. Are people not worried about this bridge collapsing? Or was it build later then the collapsed one?

For the record I will state that I think debating why our infrastucture is in such trouble that a bridge could just fall over is very much on topic and that the post should not have been deleted.

I think land of opportunity is greatly limited to the opportunity you are given. Have you noticed that Ben Afflek's ******* is now into acting as Jim Belushi the lesser talented ******* of John is an actor. Funny how all the Baldwin brothers are actors and Jake Gillenhall's ****** is now acting. Henry Fonda's ******** Jane and Peter are also actors and Lloyd Bridges sons, Jeff and Beau are both actors. If your parents are in politics, you will probably be in politics. If your parents are in medicine, you will probably be in medicine. It seems to me that if your ****** is a corporate CEO, you won't be the janitor cleaning toilets at Exxon or Halliburton. But this is a free society and everyone has equal opportunity right? :dunno:

Let's get real.

Most people are barely getting by, even those not spending what they don't make. It's why the administration and most other politicians are so out of touch. This is Durkheim, that society marches on and over those who are weaker or left behind. Adding insult to injury, they are considered deviant in the pure sense of the theory. What really gets my dander up is the Supreme Court ruling in New Haven, that taxpayers could be kicked out of their homes because more property tax could be generated by someone else occupying their property. Where is the fairness in that? It's spread to Riveria Beach, FL, and Asbury Park and who knows where else is next? So if Walmart will pay more tax on your land by developing it into a shopping center, you better start looking for somewhere else to live. You won't even get the benefit of the increased property value because the new law of public need means you go before the land is worth more.

Uncontrolled government greed. The bridge wasn't fixed in 1991 when found defective for the same reason Ford didn't fix the gas tanks in Pinto's as they were prone to explode in an accident. Not cost effective. Take the chance, and money could be better spent on some superficial trim that is more noticable than maintenance. Airlines have been accused of the same issues.

Re: Huh?

Rome was known for its massive, extensive set of roads like no where else in the world.
Likewise, the US is known for the same, and no other country has a comparable infrastructure.
And it's why we can't afford to upkeep it, much like the Romans as well. ;)

Man, I really wish people would research some of this stuff before they speak.
I was wrong in saying it's overlooked...and yes, I know that United States is known for its extensive infrastructure. However, that does not mean its quality is good. Since sufficient funds have not been given to supply transportation improvements, there is much work needed to be done. MSNBC reports that civil engineers give the U.S. infrastructure a grade of "D" this year. Congress needs to shape up and execute unilateral action.

:wave2:

My post to get back on topic was the end of the off topic "discussion".

Any off topic posts after that got deleted.

Simple really and my usual, standard way of getting things back on track.

FWIW You also received a copy of the post by PM from me - which I did not have to do - because there was apparently some effort put into composing it.
