Miles per Hour lies

In a supercar that is capable of speed over "200 MPH" you can never actually cover 200 miles in one hour. Even if you had a clean, straight road 1000 miles long, the car would either run out of fuel or the tires would fail.

Even the haloed Bugatti Veyron can only travel at 253 mph for 12 minutes before it runs out of fuel.

So next time you buy a supercar don't let the salesman fool you with fake statistics.

WHy someone wants a car that fast is beyond me.

The fastest I have ever apparently gone was 150 mph (in a Camaro). And when I was finished my motor became so damaged that the crankshaft later came out in pieces.
I had a bike (Kawasaki ZX-10) that could apparently do 162 m.p.h.. But I was way too scared to try it.

Top speed on public roads is for the lack of IQ or the selfish or both, IMO.

I'm a 0-60/quarter mile kinda guy.

A car that could do 0-60 in 4.4 was the quickest I ever had. Ideally, I would like one that could do it in 3 flat.

Sorry to ramble, I love vehicles.

You are right, but most people that buy these supercars don't plan on traveling that much of a distance in one sitting anyway. Even if they could it would have to be on a race track anyway.

For some reason, this thread reminds me of Cannonball Run and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, Worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, Going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, No expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrows
No tomorrow, No tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i'm dying, Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very very
Mad World

So then the fastest this Bugatti Veyron can go is actually 50.6 mph (253/12 minutes)
I have a Chevrolet Cavalier that can beat that.

So my Cavalier is faster then a Bugatti Veyron!

(They still make Bugatti's?)

I guess that means when skydivers tell you what speed they fall at they are lying also. Wimps, they can't even survive a fall without a parachute even if they only go about 2 miles an hour. :1orglaugh

Well think of it this way,the Veyron will get to the nearest gas station before it runs out of gas in those 12 minutes, completely fuel up,and take off again before you can get anywhere near it.

this is idiotic imo.I don't think that you are making a good enough argument to deter anyone from buying a Veyron.I thought the 1.5 million dollar price tag was enough to keep people away.:2 cents:

Yeah,Volkswagen bought them out.Just think about that, the fastest car in the world is a VEE DUB(holdin' it down for Deutschland).

You still have to deal with the fact that no tire can cope with an hours worth of 250 mph, even with a fill up cool down. The downforce and road friction will tear even the finest rubber apart. Plus a more durable tire will degrade performance and shed WOT speeds. And the Veyron is in a class of it's own. Other 200 mph supercars don't have the heat dissipating ability's of the Bugatti and will overheat if subject to repeated top end runs.

Great - now some class action attorneys will latch onto this "revelation" and speedometers will have to read in feet per second.

Big deal.

The Veyron goes 371 feet per second at it's fastest. Or do you feel better saying 22,263 feet per second.....

It's also not accurate to imply that no tire can go for an hour at that speed - better said no street approved tire - and even then, it's just a matter of practicality, not knowhow or manufacturing.

Cars are becoming less and less interesting as the days go on. Bigger, wider and heavier. I've driven and owned plenty of (street legal) cars with less than one-fifth the horsepower of the Bugatti that will tear it's ass off on a track - no matter what rubber is on the 'gatti. (And it's made less than 50km from my home, like Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini (and Ducati) - so I should at least have some local pride confusing my judgement! :D )

The pinnacle of auto design and performance was in 1957 with the Maser 450s Costin Zagato Coupe' http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=63w8ncm Quad Cam, Quad Carb. 400 hp 4.5 litre V8

As much as I would like a Veyron, my X1/9 and Alfa Spyder Veloce stand out most in my memories.

that is true the 2 limitations that the bugatti have to limit its top speed is fuel economy and tire technology.there are no manufactured tires out thereto withstand any speeds in excess of 253. in fact the engine even has a govenor due to this fact.
