That means nothing nowadays. She touched her! Big deal...

And now I am off to punch the Pope in the face.

so most of you have the "whats the big deal" attitude.
personally i feel the same.
BUT.
You are not supposed to touch the queen.
thats all there is to it.
To most its no big deal, but to many who hold tradition as being important, it is.

Of course the queen is not going make a big deal out of it.

funny how i read the initial article about this on yahoo, saying how the queen seemed surprised and the people witnessing it were somewhat shocked.
1 hour later the point of view of the articles lightened it up to " oh how cute".
typical.

The rule in Britain, don't touch the Queen.
Her doing so just shows how ignorant and classless she is.

This is the kind of thread MiltonWaddams would post some nonsense about. Haven't seen any of his crap in the forum in a while, thank God.

Great, now the Nobamas are going to get us in a shootin' war with the red coats again.

It's just sort of . . . well . . indignant.

Hypothetical - If the Queen represented the interests of the Labor Party and only the Labor Party and a Geo. "w" pulled such a stunt, we would never hear the end of it.:1orglaugh

I'll kick out a leg!

I get a kick out of it ! :1orglaugh

The question is would common sense people be as dismissive of it if Laura Bush did the same thing. I suspect so since most Americans probably can't believe such ridiculous custom still exists in this day and age.

This is a 2 minute anecdote at the end of a news hour....not a week long headliner like some people here seem to think.

Certainly the perfectly normal human gesture M Obama showed Britain's queen was NOTHING like the full on fondling of German Chancellor Merkel by GWB. That was utterly inappropriate under any circumstance IMO.

But I know, up is down to some...

Good god, they treat the fucking Queen like everyone else is toxic.
She's an overly coveted essentially useless figurehead anyways.

Good god, they treat the fucking Queen like everyone else is toxic

that might have quite opposite meaning: they treat her like she is toxic :1orglaugh

and they just want to prevent other people from getting intoxicated by touching her!

A Buckingham Palace press officer said there was no breach of protocol as they do not issue instructions on how to address the Queen. "It was a mutual and spontaneous display of affection and appreciation between the Queen and Michelle Obama ... The London Summit reception at Buckingham Palace was an informal occasion."
