I wonder if this speechwriter actually did write Melania's speech, or if they just needed someone to fall on a sword to try and move past the issue, kind of like what they had to do with Lewandowski.

What he attended - for 2 years - was an Indonesian public school that, along with standard grade school topics, taught a small amount of mainstream Islam. He then went on to attend a Catholic school for two years. He became a baptized Christian about 15 years before first announcing his candidacy for the presidency.

Oh well, at least your didn't mention his expressed admiration for the sound of the call to prayer , which many contend is ironclad proof he actually is a muslim.

What he attended was a madrasa in a Muslim country. In his formative years. He didn't write a book called Dreams From My Mother.. Islam is far more important in his life than he lets on. Perhaps he feels the Jeremiah Wright version of alignment with Islam ( Wright praises the religion often). More likely, Obama romanticises about the religion since it was his father's faith.

Either way, he certainly has a fondness for it that he feels he must defend constantly. Not normal behaviour for a president of a country where the religion he goes to bat for is in the minority. It's not like Obama has been forthcoming in every aspect of his 7.5 years in office.

I've not bothered to listen to Mrs. Trump's accent, but if that's accurate I would love to hear her say, "Must get Moose and Squirrel."

So, having no familial ties to it, or "formative years" exposure to it, why did George Bush similarly go to bat so regularly for it over his 8 years in office?

I think we both know the answer, yes? And that in fact it would be completely appropriate for any American president at any time to behave similarly under similar circumstances.
