I worked with these things before. It wouldn't be that difficult to see it happen. Get caught in the tree with no one around and your fucked. Very dangerous.

That happened to a teenager a few years back where I live. Fucking terrible. You'd think they'd have some kind of super duper safety feature on those things to make it impossibile for this type of thing to happen.

Sad shit. Hopefully he went in head first and it was quick. He worked for the country since '69 so he had a nice little pension coming to him too. At least his family will be taken care of, I'm sure.
There is, the kill switch, but it's hard to access when your arm is caught in the damn thing. I've worked with one years ago and you're never supposed to reach inside when it's on. But that's easier said than done when smaller pieces are constantly getting pinned in the walls blocking the feed. So reaching in and knocking a piece loose because old hat...until shit like this happens.
I'm not saying that's what happened, but other than fowl play, there's no other way. It doesn't seem to be an industrial chipper that he could have fell into.
At this demo site I worked at over a summer years back, there was a dead raccoon that got hit by a car. A co-worker threw it in because he got tired of seeing it and the chipper proved that it wasn't fussy about what it ate. It pulps flesh and bone in seconds.

Whoa thats some fucked up accident, that happened somewhere in my area not long ago, think last summer sometime... pretty gruesome too think about huh... Unfortunately it prolly happens more than were privy too knowing about. :uohs:

What scares me most is the number of posts in this thread alone that have heard of an accident similair to this one. No doubt a darwin award or two has been won this way and as mentioned, it did appear on 1001 ways to die, and it looked quite horrific. I saw what a pig looks like after a trip through one and it was...pretty much unrecogniseable!
Oh I dunno, you go in head first it probably wouldn't be so bad. As soon as its crushed the top of your skull and turned your brain into pulp, non-conciousness would be your merry reward.
Now of course if it's feet first (is that even possible?) that's another story. Yeesh!
