Macbook antivirus

So I just purchased my first ever Mac. Actually, bought a refurbished 2009 model off ebay (budget issues). So I was wondering, what kind of antivirus should I use for it? I know they can get viruses and malware, so cut the bullshit. I installed "avast" today, as it comes highly recommended from a friend. Would like to get a few more opinions.

MalwareBytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Spyware Blaster.

You should be fine. If you want a free anti virus, fine, get Comodo, Avira, or Avast. Whatever your preference is.

macs. i dont get them.

i have one in my fucking closet.

i wanted to use it...but, its not a mac world. my internet adapter isnt compatible with it. my software isnt compatible with it.

perhaps, one day, ill figure it out.

Have you thought about using it as a paperweight? Maybe a conversation piece. This all makes me want a big mac...

Trend micro is good. I get it free from school, so I'm not sure of the cost.

One of the top rated AV programs for Mac OS X is Intego's Virus Barrier Express and Virus Barrier Plus. I started with the basic Virus Barrier Express (free or very cheap on the Mac App Store) and recently upgraded to Virus Barrier Plus for $9.99. I noticed a lot of the Mac crowd also uses BitDefender and Kaspersky. But Premium Link Upgrade , so that's what I went with.
