For me it was burning an extra candle as I was studying my English. For me writing it is not so hard. It is conversational English that, to use an idiom, gets my dandruff up.

One is something you climb and the other means to look at for a bit of time. Not sure how long it is one needs to look for it to be a stair or stare AND a stair or a stare can be made out of various materials on which you use to elevate yourself to another level.
