normally we don't use the past continuous with the word have in that context supa.
better to use the present perfect "i have had" to make that point.
"i have had several neighbors......"
but don't let the word had confuse you. although its present perfect we use the past tense or past participle of the verb like this:
pronoun+have+ verb in past participle+ subject.
also try using the preposition through instead of "of" for that sentence.
