Oh how I wish I took languages seriously when I was at school.
I hope this thread doesn't get moved to the games section as I think this is
a "challenge" to get a message posted in 50 different languages and
not a "game" but I can understand how many will view this thread as a
game.
Also I didn't realise how big a challenge this was going to be when I
was working behind the scenes to get messages for the first post so
moving this thread to the games section will make a difficult task
twice as difficult.
However, with reservations, if this is the decision the moderators
make I'll accept it. :2 cents:

He he. Oki only the slightest bit lost in translation. 'Dalk' in Afrikaans is 'maybe' in English. So, it would translate they might move this thread. Probably a derivative from the Dutch dadelijk. You see how it influences mr google to then feel a bit sad?

You know, I have not spoken Afrikaans for yonks. I do however mix up my verb placement in a sentence. My Grammar isn't always 100% either, as I used to think in Afrikaans for many years. I tried a bit to look up 'thread' in the forum context on Google without much joy. I don't have a translator software package.
Of course, as language with its meaning and inferring, changes, so translations have to change. It is quite a challenge for the linguists. English especially is full of words with more than one meaning.
One finds Dutch is more intricate in its inflexion, if intricate is the right word. It also sounds funnier, or more fun, more a High Dutch than Afrikaans. Afrikaans sounds guttural sometimes. Like one of the Afrikaans comedians pointed out, the 'r' sounds like drilling in the street. Rrrrrrrrrrrrr. The 'g' makes you want to duck for spittle as if the speaker is going to lob one at you.
One thing I noticed from reading news reports; whenever you read 'the interest rate may rise', you know it will rise. If you see a report that reads 'the price of gas may go down', you know it won't!
