Liberals upset that Target retail store endorsed a Republican in Minn.

Protesters have been rallying outside Target Corp. or its stores almost daily since the retailer angered gay rights supporters and progressives by giving money to help a conservative Republican gubernatorial candidate in Minnesota. Liberal groups are pushing to make an example of the company, hoping its woes will deter other businesses from putting their corporate funds into elections.

A national gay rights group is negotiating with Target officials, demanding that the firm balance the scale by making comparable donations to benefit candidates it favors. Meanwhile, the controversy is threatening to complicate Target's business plans in other urban markets. Several city officials in San Francisco, one of the cities where Target hopes to expand, have begun criticizing the company.

"Target is receiving criticism and frustration from their customers because they are doing something wrong, and that should serve absolutely as an example for other companies," said Ilyse Hogue, director of political advocacy for the liberal group MoveOn.org, which is pressing Target to formally renounce involvement in election campaigns.

But conservative organizations are likely to react harshly if Target makes significant concessions to the left-leaning groups.

The flap has revealed new implications of a recent Supreme Court ruling that appeared to benefit corporations by clearing the way for them to spend company funds directly in elections. Companies taking sides in political campaigns risk alienating customers who back other candidates.

Target's $150,000 donation to a business-oriented group supporting Republican Tom Emmer, an outspoken opponent of gay marriage, was one of the first big corporate contributions to become known after the U.S. Supreme Court threw out prohibitions on corporate spending in elections earlier this year.

Bunch of whiny little babies.

Yeah, republican candidates are certainly the only individulas that benefit from corporate donations. At least Target is an American company that is donating money to American politicians. In the last election round, Diagio, the London based liquor company that makes Guinness, Johnnie Walker, and Smirnoff among others donated more than $25,000 to the Democratic Governors Association.

...Tax forms recently made public show that Democrats have not been immune from collecting corporate funds to help its politicians gain an electoral edge. The Democratic Governors Association vacuumed up $11.6 million in contributions -- mostly from corporations and unions -- during the second half of 2009. For the year, DGA raised $23.1 million, a record.

The contributors included hefty checks from nearly every top lobbying firm in Washington, and from such multi-national giants as Exxon Mobil, which pitched in $50,000. The DGA even accepted funds from the American subsidiaries of companies with foreign ownership. More than $25,000, for instance, came from Diagio, the giant European liquor producer that makes Guiness, Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker and other major brands, which is based in London.

Conservatives because they seem to enjoy wallowing among white trash these days..:dunno:

I think Target will be making an equal donation to a Liberal candidate in a day or so...

But the real issue is that the "great" SCOTUS basically fucked our country with their horrible ruling in favor of unlimited corporate buying of elections...

Target was so eager to hand money to a politician, they seem to be acting like kids in a candy store :mad:

I'm for Gay Rights as well

but i really could give a damn who target donates money to...you think most of the people who work at target care about this shit? nah they just trying to make their 8.25/hr

''Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes And clever in their own sight!
Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine And valiant men in mixing strong drink, :yahoo:
Who justify the wicked for a bribe, And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!

A bit indifferent toward those who provide for themselves are we?
BTW - What prompted this racist invective?

That's cool, never mind, have fun & enjoy your ideological extreme left wing . . . martyrdom.

Seems like they're "targeting" this store for their support of someone they see as an anti-gay bigot...not simply because he's a republican.

As if Fox wouldn't be leading a boycott of some store or otherwise for supporting someone with views GOPers found radical or offensive.
