Liberals/Democrats, what is the worst thing about the left?

vodkazvictim

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
Hey, that's why I put liberal in the title. Surely there are a few things you can say about the leftist party in England.
The left in England is lost.
Labour no longer represents the Left.
The English Left are split into disparrate factions that are occasionally even at war with one another.
Thus in England we effectively have NO left. I intend to vote Lib-Dem in the next election for the same reason as I voted for them in the last one; if we can create a tri-partite system instead of the false Left/Right dichotomy that England has had for years then we can force those who bribe and control our elected representatives into putting more time, money and effort into bribing and controlling them. It is my hope that eventually the elites will have to split their time, money and effort to such an extent that they will lose control and the elected representatives will actually start doing what the people want.

Yes, why yes, I am naieve.
My question is this: Why is everyone in such a hurry to label themselves as one or the other? Whatever happened to free thought?
Good question.

Worst things about the Left:

Political correctness
Anti-Gun agenda
Militant Vegans
Treating the religious with contempt (ala Bill Maher)

Honestly, that's all I'm coming up with.

I disagree with most of your OP. Environmentalism, feminism, Pro-Choice, and and Pro-Gay (which you didn't mention) are all Liberal positions that I'm proud to have and less proud to have to fight for in my country.

One of the things I've said during my life is: If you don't have fanatics, you don't have a cause. All sides of anything have their percentages of people who go further than the group, who take things to far/seriously. When I go after the Conservatives, I like to think I'm attacking the rank-and-file, not jumping all over what their own fringe went too far with. Us Libs have our own fanatics, and I have debated with many of them as well. This is to include a 2-year stint on an uber-Liberal Conservation board where I tried to talk sense to the militant vegans (and got nowhere, of course).

Don't think that those of us on the Left are unaware of the fanatics on our own side.

I don't think that your Liberals/Democrats are against guns or weapons by rule. I think it is more like:

Do american citzens actually need AK-47s, guns with magazines packed with mass ammo magazines. If you have to defend yourself, carry one pistol with up to, like, 13 rounds... or two revolvers, which are more reliable.

Every weapon beyond that just asks to be used in an assassination. And you see it in the posts of our members who boast about their collection of weapons.

Well....you're wrong. My fellow Libs are the only ones keeping the anti-gun, anti-2nd Amendment issue alive.

Everything you just said is from the Liberal playbook, except they set the limit at 10 rounds. And keep in mind one of the great ironies of politics. The American handgun industry was in fairly serious trouble in the late '80s and early 90s. The 10 round capacity limit saved every single one of them and gave them great balance sheets again. If this law hadn't taken effect, some of these companies would have folded permanently.

Every weapon beyond that just asks to be used in an assassination.

No they don't. When you say "every weapon", keep in mind that you're talking about hundreds of thousands, possibly over a million of one particular model, let alone all relevant models. Are they all used for "assassination"? No, the tiniest fraction are.

And you see it in the posts of our members who boast about their collection of weapons.

I've read the same posts you have, and I have no idea what you are talking about.

The backwards feminists that think porn is degrading and that femininity is a curse holding women back, so they try their hardest to act masculine and live up the the male standard.
Vegans that prattle on about their vegetable diet because any other food impedes on the rights of animals. The kind that bare their fangs at anyone who eat meat or wear leather.
Aggressilve atheists that belittle and lecture anyone who believes in god, even if no one challenged them on it.
Bipartisanship
Political correctness

I'm more of a centrist though. There are aspects that both parties share that piss me off.

I heartily agree with this, and I did the same thing and even with the terrible results, will probably do the same thing again: vote Lib-Dem. My first national office vote went to Obama, but after that I'd decided I wouldn't vote for either countries' main two parties again. And I won't. Not that my vote in the US makes any difference with the electoral college; Oregon is so blue I could vote Romney and I'm still really voting Obama.
