Lib Media MSNBC?

Earlier in the week I watched in passing some GOP congressman being interviewed on MSNBC by one of it's hosts on the debt ceiling.

Again this was in passing but what I caught was the congressman expanding the discussion to the economy and he offered something to the effect;

(Paraphrasing) - Americans are telling the Obama administration that taxing, borrowing and spending haven't worked.

Huh???? WTF??????????? :confused::1orglaugh:facepalm:

First of all, What tax did Obama increase to cause the economy to be in the condition that it's in?

And isn't the spending increase because we are finally investing in our infrastructure like we should be and Obama ran on??

Lastly, aren't we mostly borrowing at the current rates because of Bush's mismanagement of the Afghan war and his excursion into Iraq??

Why didn't the lib media MSNBC host challenge the 'guest' on these points??

Because the host most likely(unbelievable as it seems) agreed with the congressman.

We haven't invested in our infrastructure yet. If we did you'd see a 1930s style WPA program already in motion.

Then they're both stupid.

Setting aside whether that is an agreeable or disagreeable position, what about the notion that Obama taxing and spending is the cause for the current economic situation?

If you want a recovery then introduce tax cuts. You cannot blame Bush any longer for this mess because it's not his fault nor is it Obamas. The world economy is piss poor and has been since '09.

Was this during one of the actual news programs that air during the day generally, or was it during one of the opinion programs that air at night? I've found that they rarely challenge people during the "news shows" and they rarely have anyone with a differing view during the "opinion shows" that air at night. Usually the only time they REALLY challenge anyone is when they air a clip of someone who isn't actually there to respond (same goes for Fox News really).

Now, on to the topic of taxing and spending...the fact remains that the REAL problem is with something that evidently is a sacred cow or something...because nobody on either side of the aisle dares to speak of it for some reason...and that is OUT OF CONTROL defense spending (often on things that are not even wanted by the military...obviously as political patronage for contractors in particular districts)...and that has been going on for years...probably even before Obama was even born...much less before became President. The Infrastructure in this country is deteriorating at an alarming rate, and has been for YEARS! The vast majority of bridges in this country are not even up to standards and safe. The longer we allow things to crumble, the more expensive it will be to fix...and the more tragedies we will have like the major bridge collapse in Minnesota (the I-35 W bridge) back in '07.

THIS (and its desperately needed)

Pundits will list the HCRA of 2009 (which won't be experienced for a few more years). Most everyone in the country has seen a TAX DECREASE.
And isn't the spending increase because we are finally investing in our infrastructure like we should be and Obama ran on??
The only infrastructure I've seen is the ARRA at the start of his term, but most of it is being spent in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Any notion of "infrastructure" is met with cries of "socialism":surprise:

When does this ever happen in any legitimate capacity?
"News" only exists to serve as a buffer between advertisements anymore

THIS

+ REDUCE MILITARY SPENDING
+ GOVERNMENT INVESTMENT IN LEGITIMATE FORMS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
+ IMPROVE THE STANDARD OF LIVING FOR EVERY AMERICAN (the free market doesn't exist, so quit pretending that the 'invisible hand' actually exists).
+ GTFO OF IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, AND PAKISTAN.

NEITHER "TEAM" IS SERVING THE INTERESTS OF THE COUNTRY OR ITS PEOPLE

MSNBC is horrible and should be taken off the air.

You're mistaking process for product.

The most likely explanation for the lack of challenge is simply shitty journalism, rather than partisanship. Most TV hacks have fewer brain cells than a nematode; most 'journalism' 'degrees' could be passed by a dyslexic chimp with Tourettes.

We are basically feeling the effects of the economy wrecking Bush tax cuts from 2001 - 2003. Only a fool cuts taxes during "wartime" although Obama risks becoming a clone of the fool if he doesn't bring home all of our military personnel. I'll even take the cynical "bring troops home before elections."

We're not serious about doing anything to actually "modernize" our country. We're not serious about getting off of fossil fuels, actually protecting our food supply, protecting our coasts/water, making healthcare available and affordable for all Americans.

We're just all about buying cheap shit and cramming said cheap shit into giant McMansions :dunno:

Tax cuts are an incentive. One thing that doesn't work are tax hikes.

Nice platitudinous thought process.

If tax cuts are set to expire on the top 2 pct. against the consideration of spending....it's only reasonable to question the usefulness of extending them when there's no evidence it even did what it was intended to do, let alone aid in alleviating the current crisis.

I would think it wise to discontinue incurring the expense under the circumstance.

That said, the Demos didn't even have the balls to push through a new code allowing for it to expire...because guess why, they didn't have the stomach to debate the platitudes GOPers were running in the media.

Tax cuts against small businesses are an incentive for them to stay as well as getting new ones to set up shop.
Tax hikes against the middle class will only force them to move elsewhere. No one wants to pay higher rates unless you're a moron.

You mention small businesses and the middle class...If you know, what pct. of the top 2 pct. consist of middle class and small business owners?

Re: moron. Fairly simpleminded in that approach IMO. For example, if given the option of paying no tax versus some tax...only a moron would choose to pay no tax at the expense of things like their trash being picked up, roads being maintained and repaired, quality schooling, police, fire, national guard, etc., etc., etc.

I would say a simpleton, moron would only consider the prospect of paying more or less taxes as opposed to the effect.

That said, how much were you willing to ante up for our invasion of Iraq..and our invasion of Afghanistan (policies I assume you supported)? It's not like these things don't cost (and they weren't paid for).

There is no reference to the original exchange. Since I don't know the detail of what was said, I will not comment on it.

Dennis Miller said once that he felt MSNBC was hitting the rumble strips on the left side of the highway, FoxNews was hitting the strips on the right side, and CNN was pretty much down the middle. I think to a lesser extent than I remember him saying, I agree.

The consistent absolution of the current president and conviction of the former president comes across as party politics to me. I really don't care for finger pointing. I just want the job done. :dunno:

I do hate to say it, but taxes need to go up. I think starting with companies like Exxon that get a tax credit from the US and pay billions in taxes to foreign governments doesn't make sense.

We need good legislation now, not politics. Loopholes need to be taken out of tax laws to prevent incredible waste. Tort reform is the first step to addressing the healthcare issue. I don't see these things on the agenda. So, I'm disappointed and tired of the partisan politics that just want to score point. Drop the points and work for the people.

IMO we need the reincarnation of Teddy Roosevelt. A Progressive in Republican clothing.

The middle class is already taxed to the limit and they have nothing more to give. "Middle class" in my book goes up to $290,000.
There is a huge labor force that is untapped and out of work. Start a WPA program.

Well stated.

The non-stop partisanship and finger-pointing by both sides is anything but productive and God knows there's enough blame to go around to make the current mess a communal effort. The economy was a mess when Obama took office. It's still a mess. Who to blame is inconsequential. How we fix it is essential. However, I see no cohesive or cooperative effort to accomplish this. Politically, the republicans benefit from continued economic woes until or unless they regain complete power (already have the legislative advantage in the House at least) and nothing changes for the better. Then, predictably, the pendulum begins to swing the other way and the finger-pointing and blame starts shifting back the other direction. It's a never-ending continuum of failure, blame and making sure your side increases its political power from the inevitable outrage of a disenchanted and downright angry sentiment amongst the voting populace against the current regime. Service to the American people therefore becomes secondary to the goal of gaining power for "your side" and the wheel just keeps on spinning round and round.

What a totally fucked-up way to run a country.

Leaving 'your book' aside, care to answer the question? Obama has never supported raising taxes on small businesses nor the middle class. Obama has supported allowing the tax cuts on the top 2 pct. to expire. What pct. (if you know) of the 'middle class' (the highest income publicly defined as 'middle class' by anyone was by Romney at $200K) and small business owners comprise the top 2 pct. of income earners in the US?

Well stated.
I would tend to agree on the 'well stated' part except for the 'I hate to say it' part of the post. If you feel a position is correct and/or necessary...why would you 'hate' to say it??:dunno:

Obama, the first politician to lose support among his supporters for not succeeding in getting his party to raise taxes while simultaneously being blamed by his opponents for raising taxes. We Americans...

How do you pay for a modern WPA program, when you want to give billionaires more tax cuts?
