Very few countires (if any others) have such a disciplined and thorough approach to motoring as Germany. The speed restriction free autobahnen cost the country and its citizens a great deal in terms of insurance, policing, accidents, lives, pollution, time.....

Although there are always a few idiots, imo, Germany does a very good job of controlling its roadways AND drivers. IE If you are clocked too fast in a construction or school zone, you may get sentenced to automatic psyhcological evalutations. Also, they probably have the best lane discipline in the world. There is also an excellent network of rescue services that can quickly reach any section of autobahn.

Other countries just cannot do it safely - imo, elsewhere it is impossible. (Though the days in Germany surely must be numbered...)

The highways throughout the Northern Territory here in Aus have unrestricted speed limits.... They are considered to be the safest roads in Aus.... Unless you are an English tourist!!!

I remember when I was germany people were topping over 160mph, even a guy who was in a porsche 959 was nearly at +190 mph. In France would someone have exceeded the legal topspeed of 50 mph, he would have been retired his driving license forever. In switzerland, there are also autobahns where you can have nice runs. In the US, I remembered that some people dragraced one against each other.Also in the us, chp and policemen have very quick camaros, mustangs or vettes.They even reopened cannon ball runs, I think in Canada. But as BNF mentionned, the most disciplined and the most organized road network is in Germany.
