John Lennon - 30 Years

I can't even find the words to describe John. Such a terrible tragedy that I'll never forget. I don't really remember the actual night, but I remember my mom and dad telling me I'd hear about it forever. Little did I know it would take me another 20 years before I realized what he really meant to music, and to society. While he often times said he never wanted to be a hero, I can't really help it. I'm proud to know who he was, and continue to enjoy his work and message, and most of all, I'm honored to be a fan.

Thank you John, for inspiring so many, including myself, and I hope you and George are both kicking back and enjoying where ever you are.

Just checked the Wikipedia article about the year of 1980:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980

Wow, the start of the Reagan years, Bon Scott dies, Iron Maidens puts put their debue album, Pac Man is released, the strikes start in the polish Gdańsk Shipyard, the Gang of Four trial begins in China (Among them Mao's widow), ...

Oh, and 1980 gave us Nick Carter :1orglaugh

Yes, Brain Damage. Then you like me do certainly remember it. The Tragedy. Unlike so many here who had to get the information from their parents, grandparents or the many other media outlets.

Anyone who remembers it definitely knows how many people were camped out in front of the Dakota Apartments and in Central Park? Thousands upon thousands. The police had to close down 72nd Street and Central Park West for five whole days after his death and three and a half days after the release of John's ashes during that ceremony in Central Park.

Growing up, I had older cousins who were musicians and of course they followed them. So yes, we all liked the Beatles as well as their solo careers.

I admit it I think I was sad, and more depressed during the days after. It was like I lost a good friend. I finally broke down and did cry over the dedication of his ashes. Before the dedication, the local radio was playing two of George's songs "Isn't It a Pity" and "All Things Must Pass" Then the moment of silence started almost immediately after the song ended. It was somber feeling, because everyone was praying during the two minutes of silence.

But again, I also cried for George when he passed in November 2001. Yes, next year, George will be gone for ten years.

The acoustic version just kills the piano verison, and that's sayin' something' because I love the piano. But Lord knows Imagine is one of the few records everyone should hear before they reach the Pearly Gates. :hatsoff:
