Ja Rule sentenced to prison in NYC gun case

Getting his long sought after 'street cred' I guess...:1orglaugh

NEW YORK – Ja Rule headed to prison Tuesday for up to two years in a gun case, bidding a stoic but upbeat farewell-for-now to family and fans at a New York courthouse.

The multiplatinum-selling rapper and actor — whose gravelly voice, thuggish tough talk and duets with R&B divas made him one of rap's stars in the early 2000s — signed autographs for fans on his way to be sentenced. He pleaded guilty in December to attempted criminal weapon possession; the case stemmed from gun found in his luxury sports car in July 2007.
"See y'all later," he told family and friends in the courtroom audience as he was handcuffed.

"Love you!" called the group, which included his wife, Aisha, and his mother and mother-in-law.

Dressed in a white T-shirt, gray pants and a gray hooded sweat shirt, he replied, "Love you, too."

With that, Ja Rule, 35, was led away to start serving his sentence. He'll briefly be in a city jail before heading to a state prison yet to be determined.
He also faces the possibility of a federal prison sentence for failing to pay taxes on more than $3 million in income; he pleaded guilty to that in March. He faces up to three years in prison in that case, though his will push for any prison time in that case to be served at the same time as his New York term.

2007, that is not a speedy trial.

Over a gun in his vehicle? We have the right to keep and bear arms.

Shameful :nono:

He hasn't been shit in at least 5 years. It's a tough perdicament to be in in his shoes because everyone in NY probably wants him dead. Should've had a bodyguard strapped up at all times instead since he is worth something like 50 million (I think that's overstated)

It's likely the case he and his lawyers put the trial off this long with motions...

He had a right to a speedy trial but mostly likely gave up the right...:2 cents:

while we do indeed have that right, there are standards. was it licensed? in NYC they dont have civilian concealed carry permits, so thats not good for him. was it loaded? and if so was it in an easily accessible spot?

im not one for restrictions when it comes to firearms, but there do have to be some. if only the bare minimum

oh and the 3 million in unpaid taxes doesnt help his situation either

In fairness to Will, NYC is NOTORIOUS for rejecting law abiding applicants from owning a handgun, let alone carrying one. It really is a bunch of bullshit.

I have no idea if Ja Rule has any felony convictions or if he has tried to apply for a permit and was denied, but it's a disgusting part of NYC that only rich, powerful friends of Bloomberg get to defend themselves. I'm not saying Ja Rule was in the right...I have no idea of the circumstances, but it's pretty fucking scary that the 2nd Amendment has become a "right" that's only given to the privileged as a thank you in some areas of this country. I think the guy who owns the laundry mat in Jamaica, Queens probably has a more legitimate need for a handgun than Howard Stern and Don Imus.

i know that, hence what i said. theyve tried to band handguns here in SF altogether. thankfully the community that owns firearms legally sued and overturned the vote. im fully aware of firearm laws. i love my guns, and no one can take em from me

He'll be fine he's a celebrity right?

I doubt they put him in general pop.

Isn't this similar to that football player case where the guy also got 2 years?

Plaxico Burress actually shot himself. He discharged an unregistered, unlicensed handgun in a strip club. He also tried to hide the evidence. He got two years on a plea deal, but if prosecutors wanted to, they could have put him away for a whole lot longer.

The idiot carried a "cocked" and loaded Glock in his sweatpants. Anybody who knows Glocks knows that they have no external safety. They're meant to be carried in rigid holsters. The guy is one lucky son of a bitch.

Of course he will get protective custody. I just read an 8 page spread/article on Lil Wayne and he was in PC his whole time on Rikers. You can't even begin to imagine how bad it is in that place. That's why Sid Viscious killed himseld - he didn't want to do his bid there after having been there only a little while.

Too bad he didn't do this while he was still on top with his Holla song and before he went along in that Steven Seagal film. Ah well. He still sucked in Fast and the Furious, too. I'm sure he will suck just as much in prison.

:sing: Y'all gonna make me lose ma mind! Up in here! Up in here!

....lol wait, that was DMX. What did Ja Rule sing again? :dunno:

Holla, bitch! HOLLA!

OMG I have bitches in floss bikinis and shaking asses in mah murdah video and a song with Jennifer Lopez when her ass was dominating the charts! Somebody pay attention to me!

I'm muthafuckin' Ja'Rule, *****!
