I've never watched a sports game in my entire life

When you can find a way to have about 20 million people watch you help developmentally disabled children, teach 6th grade, insert low paying job here, every Sunday and then have about 150 million people watch you do it on the first February of every year, you'll make a hell of alot more money.

Sadly, your valiant and noble profession isn't likely to be a large revenue producer and therein lies the reason for this dichotomy.

Sports and its importance and hence the money involved is way out of whack, same for entertainment but the only reasonable way for people to correct that is to stop going or stop watching. It really is a cultural, societal choice. And one thing I will say in favor of sports is that at least it is a form of meritocracy where the better you perform for the most part is what decides your pay regardless of other factors which are much more common lets say in the corporate world where even failures many times get big bucks. And I like it better that the players these days get bigger share of the money as opposed to the past in many sports where owners got much bigger % of revenues and players had few options.Baseball is great example of that.
But I do agree with you Psychology we should value someone more then we do who can do things like teach children, heal the sick etc then we do in comparison to the way we value someone who can play a game well.As I said I think its out of balance somewhat as to what societies values are.

You can't knock the public at large for paying for something that entertains them. Sports celebrate life, the spirit, the competition, the joy, the sadness, the triumph, and the learning.

Now if you want to rail on the public for spending money on shit then go after those motherfuckers who watch "Hogan Knows Best" and their upcoming spin-off shit fest "Brooke Knows Best".

THAT family is a steaming pile of evil shit and anyone who watches that show contributes to its ratings and subsequent funding of the lavish lifestyle of a family more concerned with bailing out their cocksucker son than they are the tragic consequences that he has inflicted upon the world.

Guys playing games are generally not hurting anyone, and neither are the people who are watching.

watching shows on VH-1 is an implicit approval of criminal activity and the absence of entertainment.

I wish I had a better-paying job, but I chose to major in history. I'm guessing that you chose to work with developmentally disabled individuals. If money is what drives you, then you should have been a lawyer or a doctor. Or at least get a master's in business administration.

When people talk about athletes geting paid so much, how often do they talk about how short their careers are? The best athletes do things nobody else can do. And it's not because other people haven't tried. If we're talking about people getting paid too much, let's talk about Congress.

I love baseball but still feel they are way overpaid. I mean come on, 28 mil a year for ARod to play a childrens game. Even though he is my favorite player.
