....before WWIII starts. The events of recent days kind of reminds me of a drawn out start to WWI. Too many people are looking for ways to get pissed and not enough want to find some kind of settlement. I don't know what kind of time prediction to make, but as I said in another thread, if it's going to happen anyway, let's kill the other side before they kill us. At some point, subjective opinions about who is right/wrong just don't matter anymore.

When I saw these last events I thinked the same way than you..
I don't want to appear as a pessimistic person but each side are roughly keeping their moral values and nobody really want to make a step toward the other...
Iran stopped all kind of relationships with the no-muslim country and USA will never answer this by anything else than a war...
this world is going too far :(

Yeah, this could be true. Lately I've been thinking that this planet did very well without us and it definitely won't need the humans for going on existing. The question is only if we eradicate ourselves or if nature will do that for us.

A wise man once said: "if you sit by the river long enough, you'll see the corpses of your enemies floating by". Or something along those lines.

I think WWIII would be overreacting to the whole Iranian thing. Ultimately Iran needs non-muslim part of the world even more than non-muslims need Iran. IMHO common business rationale should prevail and Iranians should change the course of their actions because an economic blockade would be too burdensome.

Point is tensions have always existed. Think of the Cuban crisis. If WWIII didn't start then, why should it start now?

WWIII better not start under ANY circumstances. If is does, ballgame's over. For good. I hope that cooler heads can prevail in the long run but things don't look real promising right now. I feel sorry for our kids.

As Robin Williams would say in a bit where he was quoting God speaking to the human race...."Here I went gave you a nice planet and, look,....you fucked it up!"

WWIII already happened. It's called "The Cold War," and it almost annihilated the planet. Now there is WWIV, the "War on Terror."

WWV will likely kill us all. IMO we're regressing as a planet in our political relations, provoked by religious extremists who are like tiny bees stinging us, and they make us jump and say "Ouch!" and we then blame entire countries for the bee's sting.

A step back, a bit of better perspective, and a less aggressive approach towards each other, IMO, is the way we can ease tensions across the globe and remain peaceful.

There are crazy fuckers leading countries (N. Korea, Iran [for now]), and Hamas now leading Palestine (if that's to be considered a "country"). We need to deal with those political tornadoes first with diplomacy, but if need be, SQUASH them because THEY want to kill many of us FIRST due to their own failures, envy, and their own mismanagement of their countries/governments/people.

I'm not just talking about the Iranian situation. Since my original post, at least 4 more people have been killed of this ridiculous cartoon issue. And yes, I'm calling it ridiculous. No one seems to want peace, and the people who will get hurt the worst seem to want war the most.

WWIII didn't start during the Cuban Missle Crisis because:

A. The leaders on both sides really didn't want it to.
B. The Russians weren't prepared at the time to fight us (do a search for Oleg Penkovskiy).

Current events are much different. I mean Jeez! When the fuckin' Danes are involved you know things are headed straight to the crapper. There are too many on the other side who want this war.

And Nightfly, the cold war was not WWIII, it wasn't even close and it did not almost annihilate us. No nukes were launched by either side, no cities were destroyed. It was a cold war, and it eventually ended the way it should.

Not to be disagreeable...but I have to disagree...:)

The Cold War was WWIII. It pretty much, or did affect the entire globe (world), and it was a war. (The Cold War) The 'War on Terror' is the new world war...hence WWIV.

Yes...it's playing with words...but logically it makes sense.

There was this one fellow, named Johnny Torrio (who was also known as Frank Langley in some "circles"), who cared not too much for the implementation of violence as a means to realize ambitions he had strived for in his line of work, and was often known to make this observation: There's enough for everyone.

That patch of arid land in the Middle East--we (as in Americans) don't want it--in fact, we got our own deserts if we feel the need to go camp out on one; and any exportable "natural resources" that you may have, well, we're not there to take it, we have every intention to pay for it--as we have be doing so for some time now!

And again, that parcel of desert or mountains or earthquake-prone urbania, you're more than welcome to it, because like ol' Johnny said, there's enough for everyone.

Bottom line is this.... the western world wouldn't give a damn about Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia or any of these other countries if it wasn't for oil. The sooner we can convert to alternative fuel sources, the better off we'll be in my book. Let all the religious zealot assholes kill themselves and each other. Is that cold blooded? Maybe, but so is killing another human over the WAY somebody said something thousands of years ago.

I think Einstein said it best: "I do not know what weapons WW3 will be faught, but WW4 will be faught with sticks and stones." IMO, the Cold War was not WW3 and the war on terrorism isn't WW4. I think Korea will in the mix sometime in the future. Remember, the Korean war isn't over. An armistice was signed in 1953 and that DID NOT END the war, only a cease fire. So tomorrow, we could again be at war with Korea. And the other place is Isreal/Palestine. It's Holy War time people. Let's see some smoke, to match that fire in your bellies.

I feel like WWIII is what I've been waiting for my whole life. Not as a great thing I wanted to unfold, but something that was always inevitable.

Nuclear Warheads will go off... That's a scary thought.

So true I think. A nuclear world war will whipe out at least 50% of earths population... that's insane!

Well, who's on the list?

1) North Korea
2) Iran
3) Venezuela
4) Zimbabwe (well, most of Africa)
5) Bits of Central Asia
6) China
7) Russia (long shot, but the Russians are far from being peaceniks)

Only China and Russia, on that list, have nukes, NK and Iran are purported to have nukes. Time and time again aggressors the world over never learn that no matter how down and out Americans we will always prevail. In another world war I doubt America is going to play pussyfoot and restrict combat operations like in Vietnam or Iraq; history has proven that when America brings on maximum hurt the enemy goes down and stays there. But then dickwads like Mahmoud Amahdenijad and Kim Jung Il are hellbent on provoking confrontation in a war they know they cannot win.

What a fine fucking mess we've put ourselves in, eh?

PS In a nuclear war I sort of imagine something like that twilight zone ep where Burgess Meredith collects all those books to read - if it were me, it'd be porn, only I could probably go through a library-sized stack of books, mags, and dvds pretty quick, even before the ironic twist that is to befall me :)

I disagree... The Cold War was between The U.S. and Russia with a few minor parties involved.... The History books refer to this particular time as the "Cold War"... Not WWIII.

World War III (God forbid) is yet to happen!!!:2 cents:
