Is Tony Soprano dead?

Sure enough that I don't expect to ever see a movie, unless it's a prequel. He was looking up at the guy walking back from the toilet... if I'm not mistaken, Meadow was still parking the car when he looked up, and she entered the restaurant crying.

In fact, AJ was killed too. At that point he was a made man...it was a war, so he was a target. I don't know if Carm was killed though, Tony had told her in another episode that families were going to war, and when she started to freak, he told her to relax, wives and family members were off limits...it's a rule of honor.

I appreciate your theories rev.
i just watched it again.
he definitely looked up at meadow cause your heard the bell ring as she entered and he looked forward because he was facing the door.
and she wasnt crying.
and now youve got me confused......a.j. was not a made man at all, he was working as a d-boy for a movie at that point.

but the guy names walden who shot phill in the head ( i like that actor, he was in band of brothers too) did shoot phil right in front of his wife, and thats a no no.
killing tony in front of his family would have been justice.

that leads to the question of if he was killed who gave the order?
phil was dead and his top guys switched at the last minute, but then again there probably was still a target on tony's back.
it could have also been an order from another new york family we never saw.

i think if he got blasted it was from his right side as members only exited the terlet.

In any type of story I'm always a big closure guy. I want to definitively know what happen. I would rather have more anti-climatic aftereffect where I know what happens than leave it up for interpretation. That's probably just me though. :dunno: At the very least I want meta-story explanation that reveals it from the writers about it even if it the plot doesn't reveal it.

.

i feel the same.

You sure you are from Jersey, MP? :1orglaugh

JUST watched the finale?
Yes, he got whacked....AJ Soprano becomes the new MORE RUTHLESS Capo in the Sopranos movie coming in 2013, after being a pussy much of his life!

He killed Chrissy for 2 reasons:
1) He was a Junkie
2) Junkies roll over when pinched!

Cmom MP....
yep, i was too busy watching OZ at the time.
and i'm from down near the pine barrens where those to idiots got lost, actually more near to where tony almost bought the beach house, but most of my relatives lived in sopranoville so i know the areas well.
and my mom grew up in tonys neighborhood in newark, down neck
i think that was a great place to live at one time

so you think he got it and AJ becomes the new capo?
hmmm? I dont see that going down to well with paulie.
if he did buy the farm i think that family's busted, sil is messed up, all you really have left is the 2 young guys benny and walden and , paulie and patsy ( yes i know their names)

and chrissie, he proved his loyalty beyond a doubt when he gave up adriana.
but it was that movie he made that made tony see his true feelings, that was the thing that tilted tony's decision

I don't know, i'd like the think the guy in the members only jacket was just some clown who had too much coffee and had to piss.

AFK..being taken to the vet to get neutered.
Tony Soprano did not get whacked. It was the audience that got whacked and it fades to black because we can not view the show after our death.

blocked in my country?
fuck!

what it say?

Just in case yer serious...
This ending pissed a lot of the fans of the show off, because of its sudden and unexplained finish. Naturally, this created a lot of buzz on the Net and elsewhere, followed by a lot of theories and speculation. Which was I suppose Chase's whole point. Like so many other YouTube "explanations" of the ending scene, this one focuses on all of the little things that just might mean bigger things. Propose this, refute that...here's my theory, and fans won't like it:

In the final season, there were a lot of complications in production--including actors wanting more money, and creative differences. You know how Season Six was split into two sections...A and B? This was done because the series was supposed to end at A, but since there was such a fanatic outcry and many of the writers and production staff couldn't agree on a proper ending, they padded the season with extra episodes to placate the fan base, while trying to come up with a series ender.
Well before the final production, the actors and staff were ready to put The Sopranos to rest--especially James Gandolfini, who wanted to do other projects and feared being typecast. As the final season's taping continued, the bickering and angst between everyone, along with the fans' incessant prodding, led Chase and others to essentially "drop the shoe" with a hastily-put together final episode. But Chase wasn't done yet. He wanted to throw the whole damn thing back into everybody's faces. Hence the creation of the diner scene...and its string of question marks.

In effect, the final scene means absolutely nothing. And whether or not Tony was clipped is irrelevant.

Regardless of the state of Tony Soprano, we know that James Gandolfini is alive and well. I think we can all sleep easy now with that knowledge.

Yeah. But maybe he wishes he was still Tony Soprano. Know what I mean?

The answer is there is no answer. People can make up their own interpretations but that's all they are.

As for Chris, The baby seat was wrecked and Tony did what he thought was right at the time as he must have believed Chris would never be free from drugs and alcohol.

Now I wonder how Hurley, Ben and Desmond are getting along on the Island! ;)

Or we could type about why the assholes who made Deadwood stopped after the third season, or what might have happened if The Wire went on for more seasons.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Another thing that comes to mind is this, Phil Leotardo always said that the Jersey family was nothing more then a glorified crew, and even though everything with NY had been resolved, most, of the leadership in Tony's family had been killed off. Silvio died in the hospital, Bobby was killed, etc. The only one was Pauly Walnuts, and he had a great relationship with Johnny Sacs, and I think originally came from NY, and had a standing offer to become a member of that family any time he wanted. It wouldn't be unreasonable to believe that even if things were settled, that there would be some that want to eliminate the Jersey crew entirely, and move into the territory.

Good point. And that theory gives credo to the other theory that Chase intended to spin off the series. Of course, if you remember, Sacs fucked him eventually and Paulie turned.

I don't know man, I think they all had dinner and continued living their lives.
Maybe the onion rings were poisoned and the three got violent diarrhea, but Meadow on the other hand never ate them so she was ok :)

The reason I ask what your interpretation of the scene is because that's exactly what you're supposed to do.

I remember reading an interview with the shows creator (I can't remember his name), and he stated that the reason they ended it in that way was because if they were to show the after effects of whatever happened after the scene cut to black, whether it be Tony getting shot to fuck or the whole family going home and living happily ever after it would be a huge anti-climax because who really wants to see Tony on the floor dead or dying or indeed the exact opposite. It gives the series a finality that the way the actually ended doesn't - it allows the viewer to make up their own mind as to what happened.

Exactly.

I'm content with the way the series ended.

especially James Gandolfini, who wanted to do other projects and feared being typecast.

Has he even been in any major production since then? If he has it must not have been in anything remarkable. His plan must not have worked out so well and backfired.

No, actually I didn't.
