Europe is not fucked.

No doubt you Swedes are fine, but allow me to assure you that we Brits are indeed thoroughly fucked.
Doesn't stop the bankers driving around in their porsches that we paid for mind you....

Anyways, I don't see much that inspires hope coming from the US, but then again I don't really pay too much attention to the colonies. Have they worked out how to give themselves electricity and running water yet?

what the fuck you lookin at?
Wrong direction : but its not a recent phenomenon

Do you vote?
I often do, without much enthusiasm. In the US, there is basically one party - the business party. It has two factions, called Democrats and Republicans, which are somewhat different but carry out variations on the same policies. By and large, I am opposed to those policies. As is most of the population.

Are we all doomed?
If there was an observer on Mars, they would probably be amazed that we have survived this long. There are two problems for our species' survival - nuclear war and environmental catastrophe - and we're hurtling towards them. Knowingly. This hypothetical Martian would probably conclude that human beings were an evolutionary erro

Agree 100% :glugglug:

Agree 100% :glugglug:

Noam Chomsky is a very bright man and of course very left leaning.

We are headed in the wrong direction for the reasons he points out.Unfortunately the only viable alternative to the current party in power (the dems) is republicans who while as he says not that much different then dems are still different enough that they are even more wrong and would take us further down the wrong path.

I think it's heading in the right direction. I'm an optimistic person so i think we'll be alright in the long run. Things aren't going to change overnight so keep that in mind.

Hilarious!

At least we know those things can win an election. Living up to them, not so easy, perhaps impossible.

Obama is a president not a dictator. He can live up to it...that doesn't mean the other branch of g'ment he has to do business with won't discourage it with their actions (or inaction in some cases).

Hence the need to "update" the Constitution before we run our country into the ground.

If there was only a House of Reps (which accurately reflects the population/power dynamic of the country), a president and a SCOTUS, we would have a much more nimble gov't able to address problems.

But election results aren't enough. The Dems were handed a mandate in 2006 to end the useless Middle East boondoggles, Obama proudly let everyone know he never voted to go to war in the Middle East...but he never pulled the troops out of the Middle East? Why? THe polls have been against U.S. troops in the Middle East since 2006, Dems are supposed to be the anti-war party...

What gives :dunno:

Answer: Corporations decide foreign and domestic policy. Corporations have kept our troops in the Middle East.

Not really.

Yes really.
Cambridge is a university town in England. One of the two most respected. Cambridge is a little drop of red in an ocean of blue.
What surrounds Cambridge is rural countryside.
Oxford is also left leaning.
So there you go. The intelligent are (almost) always left leaning.
I know you are not left leaning. I will allow you to draw your own conclusions from that. I will give you ten minutes.
What?
OK OK... Fifty.

That's not an excuse. He made the promises of "hope, change, and yes we can." If he doesn't live up his promises, that's his failure.
