Is the Adult Film Industry suffering because of all the free porn on the Internet?

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
I guess it depends on how you define "the industry". If you look at it as the big production houses, I'd say they are. And since the free stuff includes their own pirated content, they definitely are. Add to that the fact that there are loads and loads of amateur and pro-am sites that don't need the Vivids, Reality Kings and Hustlers of the world to do well - and quite often, their content is more original and more erotic. Personally, I like the ams and pro-ams much better than the production house, assembly line porn that's out now. If you gave me a Vivid produced movie, maybe I'd watch it... maybe not. But I would never buy anything from them. I don't believe in downloading pirated content, but I also feel no obligation to support content that I have no use for and generally find to be quite boring and "unsexy".

I think of the ams and pro-ams like I do the Indie (mainstream) film makers; that's just where the interesting stuff is now (IMO).

The pr0n industry started to suffer once Snatchster was created.

i think today there is a huge market of adult industry and everyone is trying to get customers offering more and more free stuff. i like the free shit, but let's get clear, those girls should be paid for making us make some mayo of ours. respect porn stars and porn workers! pay them for their awesome work. i think there should be defined between porn makers what can be offered as free and what to be paid. it's sad how many people share the stuff they buy for free :( those girls bang those cocks hard and deserve $$ for that, so please don't do it.

It depends on which part of the industry. All i can give is the camming perspective. A lot of guys feel entitled to record our shows and put them on tube sites without our permission, and then guys, either thinking we put the videos up or knowing they're pirated, watch them and support the person who owns the tube site or channel, and not the cam girl herself. Many of these websites ignore DCMA notices, too.

People just need to understand that redistributing shit like that doesn't make them "cool", it takes food off of our table. There are some rich cam girls yeah, but most of us are only in the $30-$50k income bracket.

Here are some examples of what people have searched Google and Bing for, in regards to me, this month alone:
45. jaana ruutu download
122. jaana rutu cam videos
124. jaana rutu **********
126. jaana rutu webcam video
152. jaana ruutu **********.org
153. jaana ruutu porn tube
154. jaana ruutu porno
155. jaana ruutu sex free
161. jaana ruutu video sexy
172. jaanarutu cam girl naked recorded vid
173. jaanarutu cam sex video
174. jaanarutu cam vid
175. jaanarutu cam video
176. jaanarutu cam videos
177. jaanarutu camgirl video
179. jaanarutu forum
181. jaanarutu pics
182. jaanarutu sex
183. jaanarutu sex movies
184. jaanarutu sex video
185. jaanarutu tits
188. jaanarutu video show
189. jaanarutu webcam girl nude
190. jaanarutu webcam show
191. jaanarutu webcam video
193. jaanaruutu cam video
194. jaanaruutu live
195. jaanaruutu naked
196. jaanaruutu nude webcam video
197. jaanaruutu video
202. jerk off instruction jaana ruutu
212. nude jaanarutu
216. porn jaana ruutu
233. the hockeychick vids mgf
251. video cam jaanarutu
255. x videos jaana ruutu

So..instead of being like "Man, jaana is super cute. I should save up $10 and pick up one of her videos so i can help her out AND get off!", they're like "man fuck this bitch she don't even need my money".

People's attitudes in general about porn and cam girls need to change.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
No.
And I wouldn't care if it was.

I'd give my left nut to be in that income bracket.

We end up paying about 50% in taxes..so..yeah. 1099s are awesome. I LOVE BEING SELF EMPLOYED. And yes, I'm talking about American taxes. I can't speak for the 3rd world cammers but for the Americans, canadians, Finns, etc, the taxes are awful. Plus, you have to figure cost of living into that. I lose another 1/3 of my income converting it from dollars to euros..so conversion+taxes = not that much at all.

Of course it's suffering. And not only does it affect the production companies, it impacts the talent. There are fewer jobs and the pay is less. I started in this business 10 years ago and have seen significant changes in regards to compensation for the talent and for the crew as well. When I shoot for my website, I spend thousands of dollars on everything..photographer, make up, hair, locations, food for the crew, outfits..it's SO expensive and nobody stops to give a thought about it. Then some asshole steals scenes from my site and posts them on tube sites, of course it hurts me financially. How could it not! I don't have the time to keep emailing the sites to take down my stolen content and can't really afford to hire someone to do it for me. The only free porn I will watch is on FreeOnes. I will not go to tube sites. And you guys shouldn't either. Especially if you consider yourself a fan of someone, real fans join websites, buy cam shows, etc. Don't think you're flattering a girl when you tell her on Twitter that you saw all her scenes for free somewhere, it's insulting.

As much as I love free porn, I don't want my babies to suffer. Plus when you have that much porn available to you it dulls the excitement, so even as a consumer it's just not awesome.

I think differently than my colleagues about this. I don't think the adult industry is suffering from free porn really. All the free stuff out there produced by me and about me is out there because i leaked it: very few, in my case, but that's my choice and biz model. Look at the massive amount of free stuff out there and where it comes from and you'll see that mostly is leaked by their respective owners. Yeah there are exceptions and stealers of course, but i repeat myself: most of the free stuff out there has been leaked by their owners.

The porn industry is not suffering more than other industries: ppl got less money in their pockets, but this works also for restaurants, clothes, vacations and so on. Don't forget that for the increase in the amount of free porn available, there has been an equal or worse decrease in advertising: the idea is to monetize giving part of the production away for free versus protecting it and spending quids in advertising. It's a relatively new biz model which like any other biz models awards someone and penalizes others.

The industry, in my opinion, suffers (beyond this critical times for any industry) of lack of courage and of a generation of porn entrepeneurs and entrepeneuses who jumped in the train without possessing the requisites for the job. From lack of vocation to lack of business plans to lack of a customer-oriented mentality, many people are struggling or failing because they pertain to something else, but the porn industry. There are ppl in this industry, though, who do very very well and increase their income year after year and yet they are leaking their content or content that they are in is leaked, so there is definitely no connection between free porn and failing in porn, at whatever level you want.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
In a way it has, it makes porno shops, obsolete, besides only weirdos go to those places.

It's a bit of a tough question really as you can expect many different answers. Some will say yes its hurting while others are benefitting greatly from the massive potential and reach the free tube sites have.

Big issue (imo) is that for years all went very well and people got lazy. People stopped innovating. Porn used to be this big online innovator, well let me tell you those years are long gone. A lot of people hurt right now are the ones who still do what they did 5 or 10 years ago. Times are changing, the internet is changing and so should you if you run a porn company.

A lot of the porn companies were right there on the right time and were lucky. Now that they need to actually work on their product they have no clue and blame everybody else. Sure it's tough, don't get me wrong but there is still a market out there for a quality product. People are still willing to pay if you offer them something great.

The whole cam issue Jaana is mentioning should not be an issue since cams are about interaction. Take out the interaction and you have just a video clip. The big shift we saw was from people wanting (paying) for paysites to now people looking (and paying) for the live cam experience. It's not for everybody but the good thing about cam shows is that you can not pirate them. You can not pirate an interaction.

For us (FreeOnes) it is also tough to compete with the tube sites. But do you hear me complain? Sure sometimes I do but fuck most of the times I focus on our product and try to make it better. In my opinion is that the only route to go.

Anyways, time to get back to work ;)

It's true you can't pirate an interaction, but for a lot of guys the idea that it WAS a live interaction is enough for them to get off. There are plenty of tube sites dedicated to streaming recorded cam shows and plenty of guys on cam sites who get banned every day for being caught recording and uploading.
