Is Football Too Dangerous?

After watching last night's Pittsburgh match, I have to ask: has a player ever died as the result of a tackle? Is the game, with all it's helmets and pads to protect the tackler, now too rough to be called a ball game?

As strange as it sounds, boxing was safer during the bare knuckle days, as fighters would not punch the face for fear of breaking their own hand. I feel football is going the same way, the defensive players feel invincible and attempt very hard hits, in yesterday's case a high-speed helmet to helmet amongst others, aren't they going too far now? Shouldn't the league do something about it? :( :wave2:
