I was kind of a late comer to Food Network and Fine Living Network. I became an Iron Chef America fan and then I started checking out its predecessor, Iron Chef Japan. While I like both, I am absolutely hooked on Iron Chef Japan. "If memory serves me correctly" it took me an episode or two to get used to the format and the overall flow of the show, but when I did, I was done. The skill of the chefs is incredible and there doesn't seem to be any limitation on the operating budget. If you go looking on the web, you'll see some commentary about how well the translation crew does and in my opinion, they do a spectacular job. Japanese and English don't translate literally, but these folks make the show fun, funny and educational. The one caveat to that is every once in a while, a voice that you're used to for one of the regulars will be used for another regular. A little off-putting, but not a deal killer.
Anyway, Christmas comes early. I found a website that allows us to d/l full translated episodes (or you can just stream them and watch whenever you want).

As near as I can tell, this is all legal and moral and after a few weeks of downloading well over 100 episodes I haven't had any problems with viruses, spyware or anything else. On my high-speed connection, it takes less than 5 minutes to get a full episode (although 1 out of 20 seem to take considerably longer, but I'll live with the tragedy).
One of the features that I'm absolutely over the moon about is that there is a limited search feature on the site. I used this to first d/l all the episodes where actress Mayuko Takada is a guest judge. Not only is she positively gorgeous, but she is very insightful and entertaining. Personally, I think they should have made her a permanent part of the crew.
Anyway, I'm going to take the time to coach any interested parties on how to d/l an episode, as it is different from any other d/l I've ever done (and why I waited this long to post here, in case problems cropped up).
1. You'll have to register on the site (again, no problems).
2. Find an episode you want to d/l and click.
3. You'll go to a page with a synopsis of the episode and a d/l button at the bottom - click.
4. "Select Mirror" where you can choose to d/l or to watch the stream (I always d/l in case they ever take the website down). To d/l, click "Main Server". To stream, click "Watch Video".
5. On the next screen my Nortons kicks in with that bar at the top of the screen asking me if I want to d/l. Click.
6. This is where it gets tricky. The d/l will start and automatically go to a "Temporary Folder". I haven't found a way to change this.
7. When the d/l is finished, it automatically starts and comes up on my Windows Media Player. I right-click the file name on the right side of the screen and at the bottom of the scroll I click on "Open File Location".
8. This will open one of these wierd Temorary Folders that we all have and never see and voila there's the episode you just d/l'd. "Copy" don't "Cut" the episode and paste it into the folder you made immediately after you read this post. After doing this, my computer won't let me delete the file in the Temp Folder unless I come back to it later. I don't know why but I'm not bothered by it.
9. Poor a glass of wine or microbrew and enjoy the episode while thinking "My God, that Mayhem is such a stud for letting me know about this."
Note: This is how it works on my computer and my limited computer talents. If it goes different for you, so be it.
I hope there are other Iron Chef Japan freaks here and that this made their lives better. Allez Cuisine!!!
