I don't know, that map is a little flakey. For the most part it seems accurate but there are some major goof ups with it. For starters, why the hell is South Korea highlighted in red while North Korea is in yellow? South Korea is a first world country seeing as how it is in the top 15 as far as GDP is concerned. Due to that and its small population compared to countries that have about the same GDP but larger population, South Korea enjoys a high standard of living. Also, neither Egypt or Saudi Arabia classify as third world. Neither does Iran for that matter. And Kazakhstan is far closer to third world than South Africa.

I can see your point with that. The map is correct as far as China and India is concerned due to their fast growing economy, but they are still developing considering that they do still have some third world esc qualities as far as standard of living goes. Same for Brazil. Also, as odd as it may sound, Nigeria also has one of the world's fastest growing economies.

Unemployment is somewhere between 10 and 16 percent, therefore few employment opportunities exist and immigrants tend to go home, it's simple economics.

It might be more accurate to say when the economy is stronger. I don't think the American economy has actually been strong since the 1960s.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
They're probably kept that way for a reason. If those countries standard of living gets to where it is in North America it will mean no more cheap labor as those people will want higher wages to support their new standard of living, hence their economies slow down. Companies like Nike stop producing stuff in China and move to the next country that can provide cheap labor. Those call centres in India, gone.
