If you had $30k to spend on a car...

Audi TT

If forced to choose from just those two I wouldn't buy the Mustang. I have never seen any of them that have ever impressed me. I would trust the Porsche a lot more.

Re: Leasing isn't as cut 'n' dried as ya might think ...

Leasing is the never ending car payment.

Nice part of leasing, is you only pay for what you use..

2007 BMW 335i

$2500 down for 36 month lease $556.00 a month
$2500 Down for 60 month finance $760.00 a month

I have a full warranty for the 3 years at 15,000 miles a year and no regular maintainence costs..

Re: Hmmm...

Go GM. I've owned Fords, foreigns and GM's and I always felt confident in my GM's. Chevy and Pontiac to be specific. I had a shitload of problems with my Ford, but maybe that's just me. I'd say get a GM.

You know who's makin' some crazy cars nowadays: Buick. Never owned one, but the stuff they are comming out with is pretty dope. ;)

PS: I always wanted a Regal, remember when they came out with those dope Regals in the late 90's, with the 3.8 turbos. Man those cars are dope.

I assume you are referring to the mid to late 80's Regal Grand National's. I loved those cars.
I always refer normally aspirated (ie. no turbos or superchargers). But back then, everything was so relatively slow from the factory that these cars were such a breath of fresh air. And, of course, the Regal Grand National GNX. 300 horsepower from a V6. It was faster then a stock Corvette. Looked great too - if you like that sort of look.

squallumz

knows petras secret: she farted.
if i had that type of scratch and i could only spend it on a car, id go for a delorean, though id much rather spend the cash on other things.

I would go for a slightly used infinti g35 coupe.

hemi cuda or a charger 69'

Normally it would burn a lot of gas, but because it needs a battery, it doesn't use any at all. :)

I could buy a really cool car for $30k, something to impress all my friends, and give me a much needed ego boost, but then I couldn't pay off the house, which is probably much, much, much cooler.

Unlike a car, it's an investment and goes up in value so I never lose money! :dunno:

Actually to be serious a moment I think and hope we will soon see the day when owning a vehicle which is not fuel efficent will make you very uncool and unattractive. We won't need laws just good ole peer pressure.

I see your point and undoubtedly most would agree with you. But I see it differently.

Being that gasoline is a diminishing resource. And since I believe that until people are faced with unbearably very high gas prices (gas is currently cheaper then bottled water in North America) or huge shortages - they will not stop consuming it at a huge rate. I believe the faster we use up gas, the faster we stop using these incredibly wasteful internal combustion engines and find something much greener.

And in terms of CO2 emissions; there is a legal maximum in most Western countries that a vehicle can put out. My understanding is that a car that burns gas at 30 m.p.g. or one that burns it at 20 m.p.g. put out roughly the same emissions. The latter just puts out those emissions at a much higher fuel usage rate. And the only person that it would cost is the person that is pumping the gas in his/her tank.
So that person that is driving the 20 m.p.g. car is actually helping the environment because he/she is ridding the world of nasty gasoline faster without damaging the environment significantly more then the 30 m.p.g. user.
So IF the emissions are similar - then the 20 m.p.g. user is helping the environment more then the 30 m.p.g. user - IMO.

BTW, my vehicles on board fuel mileage reading since I purchased it last year is about 8.8 m.p.g.! And that's Imperial gallons!
So I am REALLY helping the World rid itself of gasoline.

What a guy!

:D;)

In North America, new car warranties (basically bumper-to-bumper) are usually 3 years or 60,000 kms (45,000 miles); whichever comes first. You could buy a 1 year old Mustang GT and save a bundle. It is a very popular car so it should not be too hard to find what you are looking for.

This was part of my first post that I want to correct.

36,000 miles roughly equals 60,000 kilometres. Not 45,000.

It was bugging me.

Ummm...forget most of what I typed above. According to this site:

http://www.data360.org/graph_group.aspx?Graph_Group_Id=363

emissions DO go up significantly with higher fuel consumption.

So I was wrong apparently - BIG TIME.

Well, it sounded good.

However, to be blunt, I do not care all that much about the environment. As I think the human race is a waste of time. And since I have (and plan to have) no children; then it can choke itself to death on it's emissions for all I care. Any race of people that seems to care more about thier enviornment then their fellow humans gets everything they deserve.
This is of course assuming that a) it happens after I am gone.
And b) there is no reincarnation.

However, I do not wish to be a strong contributor to that destruction - for my karmic future's sake if for nothing else. So maybe I should re-evaluate the ownership of my present vehicle.
But until I see significant improvement from the masses; I probably will feel no great compunction to improve my habits at this time.

Sorry if I hijacked your interesting thread there titsrock.

Fuel consumption is like the local market.

As soon as someone over a microphone, (or TV), says, "Zuccini is in short supply, get yours now"! Everyone runs to get in line to buy as much as they can even while the price is going up. They have no clue, might not even like the stuff, but are trained do whatever the voice tells them. I don't think people think for themselves and they mostly want to be told what to do. There isn't a lot of free will in the world. It's uncomfortable to go against the trend.

Yes, when it becomes noticably cool to cut down on zuccini, people will be trained to do that.
