I think I'm running out of horror movies to watch....

Are there many horror fans on here? I've been trying to find some movies lately, but I think I'm starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel. I'm really in the mood to see some stuff from the 80s/90s.

Here's what I've seen/mostly got from that era: Nightmare On Elm series, Friday the 13th series, Halloween series, Hellraiser series, Child's Play series, Texas Chainsaw series, George Romero series, Return of the Living Dead series, Phantasm series, Night of the Demons series, Evil Dead series, Bad Dreams, Sole Survivor, The Thing, Black Christmas, Eyes of a Stranger, When a Stranger Calls, Silent Night Deadly Night, Scanners, Sleepaway Camp, Shock Waves, The Dead Next Door, Pumpkinhead, Candyman, Basket Case, Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine, Terror Train, From a Whisper to a Scream among others.....whew!

I guess most of these would fall into the campy/slasher category. There's a couple of things I haven't seen yet. I've never seen any of the Re-Animators, but a lot of people say the first one is supposed to be good. Another one I was thinking about was Happy Birthday to Me. After that, I don't really have any ideas. So what am I missing that I should see? Are there any gems that some of you know about that haven't made it to dvd?

I would not classify Evil Dead series as horror, but that's just me and they kick ass BTW.

I would highly recommend - Laid to Rest, 100 Tears, Gutterballs, Nightmare Man and Timo Rose's Barricade
But the best Horror I have seen Recently is Martyrs :thumbsup:

there is also the old school movies like Wolfman, frankenstein and other Boris kosloff movies.

You should watch movies from other countries than the US. You could start with italian directors like Dario Argento, Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci. Their movies were often heavily cut (or banned) in many countries when they first came out but most of their movies have been released uncut on dvd now.

They just don't have the same appeal the did when we were kids is all. When we were young, we didn't always realize that shit wasn't real. And even when we did, it still scared the hell out of us. By today's standards those movies are just cheesy.

I've given up trying to find a horror movie that actually scares me. At this point in my life, if the movie doesn't have a lot of blood and gore, I'm not interested.

For gore some great ones are the SAW series. Kinda like gore porn! Also the texas chainsaw movies are pretty good. Those 2 series are the standards by which I judge all gory horror movies.

Wolf Creek deserves an honorable mention here. Fucked up movie! Hills Have Eyes is pretty good too. The second one is lame, and the original from the 70's is just horrible!

Martyrs is a must see. It’s the most brutal thing I've ever viewed but somehow simultaneously it’s the most amazing mind blowing viewing experience I've ever had. If you’re looking for blood and gore, don’t worry, my other half watched this with me and ended up being physically sick. :eek:

I'll be honest looks...eh :dunno:, but physically ill you say? Hmmm...they have this at blockbuster or local video stores? Obviously not from America!

Blood and guts don't really effect me anymore. It's the psychological stuff that I find scarier than anything else. Hardcandy was a great one. The Mothman Prophecy, The Thing, The Excorcist, the Shining, Silence of the Lambs. Hitchcock was the master of playing on your fears, I would start with some of his movies.

I dig paranormal stuff too. Poltergeist, The Amittyville Horror, Haunting in Connecticut. I can't wait to see paranormal activity. I'm also a big Saw geek. I know the story line is getting a bit convoluted, but I still love the sense of impending doom the filmmakers have created in that series.

I still watch the bloody stuff. House of 1000 corpses. The Devil's Rejects. Anything having to do with Zombies. I like some of those Ghosthouse and horrorfest movies. Like Borderlands and Slaughter. I'll watch anything having to do with Horror. I even love the crappy straight to DVD movies.

Try Inside, as much as I love Martyrs, Inside is even better. Totally brutal horror, all the way!

Missing from your list are the first two Alien movies.

Martyrs is a great film. I strongly recommend High Tension. You must pay attention to detail otherwise it won't make sense. The Descent is also another good one. If you haven't seen Cannibal Holocaust, it is a must see. The Blair Witch used this movie as their template. I must warn you that there are several scenes of real animals being killed which tend to be a bit disturbing. Ruggero Deadoto, the director, was actually imprisoned by the Italian Gov. after the release of this film. It is a classic and a must see for any horror fanatics, excellent film for it's time.

I was underwhelmed by this after all the hype. The 2nd half is where it all falls apart for me, without giving away any spoilers it really makes no sense given what has gone before. Its basically torture porn for the middle class. Although France has made some pretty good horror movies over the last few years, I enjoyed Frontiers, Them, Inside, Switchblade Romance (aka High Tension) despite having a totally illogical twist.
I would also recommend the Belgian horror Calvaire & British evil teenagers movie Eden Lake.

Yes, its really good. I caught it for the first time a couple weeks ago. Funny and creepy while you watch it. But you'll feel somewhat disturbed afterwards. Better than most zombie movies it taps into that idea of 'not being in control of your body after you die.'

It doesn't have a big body count, but the performances are great and has one of the best nude scenes in a horror movie ever. EVER.
