Get her a friendly, "Hope that you're doing well" greeting card along with a small (not too major sized) floral arrangement and top it off with a single can of MACE.

Stop thinking about yourself in this situation, step back from the applause and look at her situation. When she is ready let her come to you. What are you going to say to her?

When you do get around to speaking about the incident, make sure that you finish off the discussion with a smile and a lighter note

May I ask, what kind of rat would lurk around a college campus and "jack in the box" out of the bushes like this ? Did he appear to be somewhat of a vagrant, sort of stinky guy ?

What I would in this situation is probably call her everyday or every couple days (or text in todays world) See how she is doing, how her day is going such and such then leave it at that. Eventually she then reopen up to those around you including you and you will probably be on of the first if not the first.

This would also work if you visited 3 or 4 times every couple of weeks (for however long it lasts for)

Remember, keep the talk to small talk. How's school going, hows your day, etc..., etc...

thanks for the advice guys. i was just confused, give her time, or to have me initiate contact with her. i just don't know what is going on in her head, but i sent her a text telling her that whatever she wants to do im fine with. if she wants to talk about it, forget it, recover from it, etc, i will support her. i just let her know that when she is ready, i will be there.

i did not post the story for myself. i posted this story to find out what happens next. not for my sake but for hers. yeah, this is only half the battle. but i need to be a friend and help her through it and be there for her. i do not care about how she feels about ME, or what she thought of ME and the situation; i just wanted advice on HOW i should approach her to let her know that i am here for her. because i was unsure if approaching her would bring back bad memories, but thanks to all your comments, it seemed that an open ended approach worked best in this case.

yes, i had control of the situation when i tackled the guy. the reason i kept hitting him because i was so enraged in the situation, and the adrenaline was pumping, all that was on my mind was his face, and me hitting him for what he did. like i said, tunnel vision. i was perfectly content in hitting him until his face went soft and was deflated. it was weird, cause i've never felt that angry about something in my life, and i've never hit someone like that before, very out of character for me. crazy how the body responds in that kind of situation.


thanks for the responses everyone. a little confused about how and if i should approach her, but hopefully i can do the right things to help HER through the situation; if i am needed in the "healing process".

college campus...and it happened during dead week, meaning finals week is around the corner, so the library opens hours up to 24 hrs a day.

my right hand is kind of messed up. i doubt i broke any fingers, but i probably have a hairline fracture or something, cause apparently when the guy pulled me off of him i was still swinging and missed the guys face and hit the pavement...don't remember it...just kind of felt the aftermath of it.
