It is certainly common and usual and not abnormal and regular to see obesity. It remains to be seen whether or not obesity is the societal "killer" it is currently being made out to be. If you live near a museum go look at paintings and check the time periods where "large" women were being celebrated, for example. Up until 1940s, a fat man in suit was a sign of wealth and success.
"Gross" obesity, the kind where people have to be airlifted out of their homes and to the hospitals is certainly dangerous for the person to carry that much weight.
66% (and growing) is certainly a majority figure, therefore, it is common. You just need to pull your head out of your butt and look around at people.
