I like to pop my collar.

Conspiracy...
I am not in the cool crowd. I am a geek who spends his Friday nights watching documentaries. I am not trying to change social ladders. I am not trying to do anything but pop my collar.

Who says you're not in the "cool" crowd? It's the people who need the approval of the masses that have the true self image problems. I like when someone goes off on their own and decides for themselves what is acceptable for them. I don't like a sheep mentality. I watch documentaries too. It's a good thing to improve your mind and learn new things.
I don't know why are when it started, that being intelligent is a bad thing. Because it's not, it's a great thing.

That just convinced I have to do it. In High School, I'd always try to conform so as to avoid criticism. I am going for it. My collars are about to be popped.

Never conform whatever you do. Conformity might make others like you better, but you won't like yourself and that's not a good thing.

To pop or not to pop...

Whatever floats your boat Dude.... Personally, I do but its not to look cool or to stand out... I do it to keep the sun off the back of my neck as I spend a lot of time outdoors. The Sun is quite intense here in Australia... "Popping" your collar is quite common as it is regarded as more of a health issue rather then a trend. Skin cancer is one of the top five killers down under.

What the fuck?

This may help;

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pop+my+collar

Explains it a bit.

Whoever the first person was on this thread, is that really your contribution to life? I'm losing the will to live if I'm actually read threads this shit.

This explains it some too, slang versions I think are a bit harsh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upturned_collar *scrunches up face* Like stuffing people in a phone booth, just another trend. lol

Please, nobody ask what a phone booth is since they are about outdated now too.

A bit of advice: Nobody really cares what you do. If you want to pop your collar, then do it. People might laugh at you or make fun of you, but 20 seconds later they will forget and you will be gone. It doesn't affect you in any way. Grow a pair and JUST DO IT.

Can people please refrain from using the term "Just do it"

It is a registered trademark of Nike, and I fear infingment may cause Nike to pursue legal action resulting in either the deletion of this highly informative, if a little teadius thread, or the closure of Freeones forum.

In future, if people could use "Just go for it," "we're with you buddy," "yeah, you have my permission" or "no man, that's just wrong," or "aint no dope smokin bud of mine will b seen with ya'll thinkin ya pimped"* it will be more wise.

I am not a representative of Nike or any Nike subsidiary companies, either am I sponsored by Nike or wear their trainers (I prefer more comfortable leather soled shoes). Nor have I ever met anyone who is a representative of Nike.

Thank you.

*My typing is not representative of black people or Snoop Dogg.

::groans:: this thread.. why?

Geez. Just.. no. Pop... corn. It's 10x as serious as this topic. And it's a silly, fluffy food. Yeah.

just wanted to say: i popped my collar this morning.

it was not what i remembered it to be.

No, I am not a douchebag, but I like to pop my collar. I am seeking permission from others on whether I may continue to do so.

Seriously, I am at times laughing at how fashion police have determined that popping your collar turns you into a douchebag, and at other times, I am deeply disappointed that anyone would follow their idiotic rules. Who makes these arbitrary rules, and who are these morons who abide by them? Even worse, on what basis are these rules made? (if you're going to answer a single question in this thread, answer this one, and provide a rational answer)

I genuinely like 80s fashion, music, movies, etc. I like to pop my collar, but I don't, because it is considered unacceptable, others will criticise me for it, and it is some fashion taboo. I am not following a trend (I don't know of a single person who pops his collar). Why is it so hard to believe that a person could like everything 80s, including popping one's collar? For the record, I did not even know popping one's collar was 80s fashion until recently; I popped my collar long before this point, but it helps to know that my fashion sense is related to my 80s fascination.

I am not in the cool crowd. I am a geek who spends his Friday nights watching documentaries. I am not trying to change social ladders. I am not trying to do anything but pop my collar.

This is just a rant, because I care way too much about what others think of me, and for that reason (it's an unrelated self-esteem issue; not the point of this thread), I know I won't be able to pop my collar in public until I build up enough self-esteem to face criticism.

By the way, keep in mind that I am not the one following a trend: if you are part of the fashion police, YOU are. You are the only who dictates what the masses should or should not do. YOU are creating a trend followed by people who can't decide for themselves.

It's sad I can only utter these words in the privacy of the Internet.

You could always just head-butt someone if/when they give you grief for it. :dunno: My motto: don't take any lip off anyone. ;)

LOL! If you think this thread is funny, on summer weekends I get to see aging baby boomer's on their Harleys with the cuff of their jeans up and still sporting that white t-shirt/leather jacket "Greaser" look from the 50's. Popped collars on polo-shirts are tame compared to that.

The hip hop culture's embrace of 80s fashion is pretty much the final nail in the coffin in the argument that hip hop culture is nothing more then a reaction to, with the intention of, satirizing white america.

80s fashion, like overall 80s style and design, is ridiculous and embarrassing today.

To the OP, if you really like 80s fashion, then popping your collar is not enough. You have to wear a pair of Aviator sunglasses and tie a V-neck sweather around your neck. That is the complete 80s douche look.....

..

It's not hip-hop culture though. Some hip-hop heads try to make it theirs, but it's really not. That old sort of 80's look that started up again recently came out of prep stores like Abercrombie, Hollister and Aeropostle.
