The Taliban is a political org of some sort made up of all sorts of fighters.

The U.S. does not refer to them as ex-mujahideen. Instead we use the word, "insurgent" which is a nice carry over from Iraq.

Doesn't really matter who it was founded by, The CIA basically financed, armed and maybe even trained the whole damn mujahideen. Blame the Soviets. No invasion, no mujas. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan had all the influence in creating the mujas. We just supplied the weapons through Gulf oil state arms dealers.
So blame Mother Russia for the whole clusterfuck.
