sundae bacon? that looks disgusting!

Not at all. Salt with sweet just like chocolate covered pretzels.

This sounds very good...have you ever added a ham hock to the mixture?

No but it certainly could be done but I wouldn't use fresh. Any time you want to use bones to make a soup they should be roasted first to bring out the flavor. I use smoked ham hocks when I make pea soup just to avoid that process.

It's that hard to avoid. Everything I liked when I was a kid that didn't have bacon in it now has bacon added to it. More better, I guess.

Maybe making your own food could help to avoid bacon if you would want to avoid it.

You know, buying some plain meat, etc., not the one which is stuffed with bacon and wrapped with bacon and ready to be microwaved. :)

When I make an omelet with bacon in it I open up a bacon package, tear half of it off, putting half back in the package and the other half pound in the frying pan. I like to use bacon grease to fry my hash browns in also.

To be honest, I had no idea that they came any other way. Any time my late mother, or my wife has purchased them, they've always been smoked, 2 to a package, and just enough meat on the bone to make me complain that more ham needed to be added to the soup! When my wife makes pea soup, she always buys a ham steak, and cubes it up, because I always bitch about everything needing more dead animal in it. When I make red sauce, I always use neck bones for the flavor, but if you're familiar with them, you know they have very little meat on them, so I always add, either spare ribs, or pork chops.

Seriously dude. I'm not the biggest fan of Chocolate, but when you use it to cover pretzels, it can't get any better. We have a local company, called "Malley's". Man, what a little slice of Heaven their Chocolate covered pretzels are. Plus, they sell candy bars, with broken pretzel pieces in them.
