I don't know if it's ego, having over rehearsed the scenario in their minds, strict procedure or what....
It happened in front of me (for a lesser crime), and all the citizens / pedestrians were shouting and pointing at the guy getting away. The cops just pushed through them with that cocky, determined, "hot-****," "move along now" attitude. They made it to the original address / location and then were left with dumbass expressions on their faces, heads spinning in a slack jawed "where'd he go" daze.
The people who had tried to help just rolled their eyes and went about their business.
