Wow... for the first time I can say you're actually, literally, way off imo.
(1) Lots of Americans criticize Islam as a whole. I hear it every day. It's everywhere you look. It happens in church, school, on TV, and on this board.
(2) You're saying many Arab states tell their people to **** those with different viewpoints? This is absolute fabrication. Please tell me the names of these many Arab states that wilfully incite **** of other nations, and please give me some example. Or, tell me how those examples are different from the smokescreens created by Bush and Blair to cause us to not ****, but mortally fear, those with different viewpoints (like your fear of socialism for example) - and fear only leads to... ****.
(3) The West is guilty of atrocities now, not in the past. Now. Look at where our militaries are. In the eyes of the Arab world, occupation, particularly without the blessing of the only remnants of a world government we have left (you call it a joke, I call it the UN)... is an atrocity. I agree with the Arab world on this one.
(4) Look at where so much western oil comes from, how can you say we used it as a basin of resources in the past? It still is.
(5) It has little to do with Islam today, but everything to do with ILL FEELING TOWARD THE WEST today. Islam is used as a tool, but our own actions, not just in the past but right now, are a cause of the direct consequence of ill feeling.
(6) States raise people into believing what they want. That, in a nutshell, is what the American system does. The pledge of allegience. Patriotism. Why does everyone get mad if you criticize the military? I can do that in any European country and half the people will agree with me. Do that here, and it's, HEY, THOSE MEN ARE DYING FOR YOU BASTARD, well... er... weird how everyone parrots the same thing with the same stars and stripes shining in their eyes. Just a coincidence, I'm sure. Not inspired by the state. Surely not. ****** Russia, anyone?
(7) Finally, if terrorism is ******* religion, which it is... then what about this:
this is god's country. God is on our side. When we go and invade... cough... help these Arabs, God is with us. God bless America. Our soldiers are in heaven now because they died serving god's country. You hear things like this all the time, especially in church. WAR AND RELIGION ARE INCOMPATIBLE. Nowhere in Christianity does it sanction what we are doing. Nowhere in Christianity does it mention America. We, as much as anyone else in the world, are ******* religion.
That is EXACTLY what our opposition says. There is no difference between us and them. They want to get on with their lives, we want to get on with ours. Replace "damn terrorists" with "damn western leaders and armies". Maybe replace the flying to holiday spots because they can't afford that, but live their daily lives, yes.
YES, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
It's not about we and them. Don't believe the hype. They're just like you. They don't all feel the same, neither do "we". And there's very little difference between we and them. Don't believe the damn hype, trust me on this. Go live there for a few months and you will take back every word. You will come back and say GUYS, WE NEED TO GET OUR SOLDIERS OUT OF THERE, WE WERE SO WRONG... and no-one - I repeat no-one - is trying to spread their culture on the west. No-one. Western culture welcomes all culture. So are we saying we welcome all culture except their culture, now? And you won't find Arabs screaming, stop spreading your culture! You will find Arabs screaming, LEAVE US ALONE AND GET YOUR SOLDIERS OFF OUR STREETS YOU OPPRESSORS. And they are, right, on this.
Blame the States because the States has military bases all over the world and controls more of this planet than you can imagine. Everyone knows it, and the US makes no secret about it. If you have your fingers in every pie, then you are partly to blame for what is wrong with all those pies. Everyone else's wealth is being diverted into our nation and other western nations, we have set up a global economy that ensures this disparity keeps perpetuating itself, and we have stacked the deck of economics in our favour to a ridiculous extent.
