How do I set up my avatar for my profile?

I'm new to this forum, and I'n not entirely sure how the mechanics work yet. IF possible I'd really love to setup an avatar to my forum account. Please advise. Thank you.

Okay just figured out how to use one of the avatars in the menu now. But how do I upload my own avatar?

Okay, 3rd question,

I've just noticed that I can't reply to threads from others. How does one earn the privileges to reply to posts in threads?
