How Different Would America be Today if the CSA Won?

When did this become a Harry Turtledove forum...anyways, the CSA would be asking the North for bailout money, and the hit movie down there would be Wayne's World, the North would still win though, we had cooler uniforms!

i read that series by Turtledove. i enjoyed it

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
One of the most important ramifications that immediately comes to mind as far as having a significant direct impact on my life in particular is that the AFC South would no longer include Indianapolis.

How did this escape me?? I know for sure one way it would be different...we wouldn't be having this conversation as the "do as I say, not as I do" southern zealots most assuredly would have banned porn and porn sites (if we would even have the "internets" to begin with).

So M/D you probably wouldn't have this forum to ask the question.:o

Who won the war? did Jake Featherstone commit suicide in a bunker?

featherstone was killed by a black rebel after his plane crashed in the deep south. the US reclaims all land it lost in the civil war and has to deal with a lot of problems on all sides of the country.

a relatively good description of the series is on Wikipedia if you wanna brush up

OK, I'm not saying the American people should revolt, but your factually wrong.

lets say that Americans weren't so fucking lazy, just for a second. We have a population of over 300 million right? ok

Our military may be the most technologically advanced in the world, but its not the largest. We've got a total of about 3 million personnel if you count all active and reserve units. On top of that we have roughly 800,000 Law Enforcement personnel working in the US.

You really think that 3.8 million people can put down a force of lets say half the population? or even so much as a sixth?

now of course the revolt would be totally disorganized, but even then the US Govt would be over-powered. and you also have to think about the numbers of Military and LEO personnel that would desert and join the ranks of the people.

its like when people become worried that the Govt will go house to house and take away our guns. It's numerically impossible for that to happen. there just isn't enough man power to do it.

you do assume that the rest of the people (or even a portion of them) wouldn't fight for the government as to the csa difference i imagine the country would not be as advanced as it is, there would have been guerrilla attacks for years as well as the difficult and often violent task of establishing a new government over the entirety of the country i imagine these factors alone would have slowed progress as to less racism i don't understand why you'd think that

i was speaking from outside the debate of the CSA winning the Civil War. more of a real life standpoint.

i couldn't even begin to imagine what would happen if the CSA had a civil war of its own after their winning the war. the rebellion would more than likely be supported by the USA, leading to the revolt succeeding and the south being brought back into the Union.

and i didnt mention anything about racism. although i would have to imagine that if we went into another Civil War in real life that racial sides would be taken on some fronts leading to very bad things

sorry if i was unclear i just meant this part toward any current revolt against the government: 'you do assume that the rest of the people (or even a portion of them) wouldn't fight for the government' the rest of what i said was meant toward the thread topic itself

There is actually a movie about this. C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America is the movie and the tag line is what if the South won the Civil War?

Tongue in cheek. Co-produced by Spike Lee.

Why not, Mega? After all, Al Gore is from Tennessee. :1orglaugh

:facepalm:I said "internets" (the one GWB invented).:cool:Gore invented the internet.

Your facts are 100% correct. However, I think you have misunderstood my post.

I'm not saying they cant do it. I'm saying they cant be bothered to do it. Even in your post, you had to suppose that the American public "wasnt so fucking lazy", which is my point. Sure, if even 1/10 of the US population, many of whom are armed, chose to rise up and overthrow the government, it could be done. It IS possible.

But then we have the difference between POSSIBLE and PROBABLE. Its POSSIBLE that when I go downstairs to my TV Room that Erica Campbell, Jelena Jensen, and Sara Stone will greet me and ask me to make their threesome a foursome. It is, on the other hand, highly improbable.

ok, ya got me there. its true to say that people would fight on behalf of the Govt. but what it really boils down to is what the conflict would be over. lets just hope that we never, ever find out.

Gol Damn. We'd be fucked four ways from Sunday if the C.S.A. Just watch the movie, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389828/. Plus, it's pretty much impossible that the C.S.A. could've ever won. North had more resources, and the south didn't want to make it a "total war" when the North did (Love you General Sherman <3 ).

I really hope your not one of those "It was the woah of Northern aggression" types.

Who's armed better now, people in the North or South? I reckon the South could use the element of surprise and overrun the north in days. Holding on to said victory will prove tricky and only a Taliban style guerilla campaign against government troops would prove effective, after several years of fighting the government troops would lose all public support and would be forced to return home (ie their barracks). It'll certainly be worth watching on the news over here in the UK, our latest headline is about a guy abandoning his pet dog in a car park then quickly driving off

to tell the truth, id say they're evenly matched on a citizen level. most people overlook firearms ownership everywhere else because of the "paranoid redneck" thing.

i know for a fact that there are thousands of gun owners here in SF, a city where most people think the only guns belong to a few conservatives and criminals
