How are teen topanga, etc. legal?

I'm not sure if there exists a similar organization in the US, but I saw a documentary a while ago that showcased a job in Canada. This office watches every single movie released for sale in one of the Canadian provinces and decides whether or not it is legal. That includes watching every single porno. It was pretty hilarious seeing these workers in business attire sitting with clipboards and watching porn for hours on end.

While there are laws, it's often open to interpretation by these viewers. They have to decide if it's too violent or whatever. I think it quite possible that they would have to decide whether a porno looks too much like underage sex (assuming they have similar laws in Canada).

Well if you already knew the answer why did you ask? Just to tell us we're wrong?

No, if you read the whole post, you would see I have a question in it.

Also, I have read that in place of that ban, it has been a state thing. AKA, if the community finds the stuff "offensive" or something, you can possibly get charge with something. Forgot what its called. Anyone know the exacts on that?

I don't know if the above is true, but have heard of it being true. So, does anyone know if that is true?

^ I did not know of that Miller Test. This part jumped out at me as being very similar to the question you asked.

Whether the work depicts/describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct or excretory functions specifically defined by applicable state law.

This sounds like what you were talking about regarding state law. This whole thing may, in that case, just be up to interpretation. I would guess that states would only pursue charges against someone if they think they could get a conviction. Or else they would just look foolish. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the type of thing that only gets acted on if someone complains. That's probably the closest to an answer that I can offer.

I have to admit, I learned something from this topic and the links you provided. Never really knew much about what laws protect pornographic and obscene content.

Well, I mean the Miller test defines what is "obscene". But is it illegal to look at obscene stuff (porn) in private? Obviously not.

So, anyone have any definite answers to this question?

My answer to the Miller test. :1orglaugh

Who are they to tell you what is obscene or not?

Are these good church going people? Then why worry about it?
